Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq and Sarfaraz Ahmed are the other three, the Champions One-Day Cup may be their first project
Less than a month after becoming the advisor to the PCB chairman on cricket politics, Waqar Younis ' stint has ended, with the original fast bowler then a mentor for one of the five factors in the new domestic events the Board is introducing this year.
Waqar is joined by Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq and Sarfaraz Ahmed as coaches, whose initial homework will be the Champions One-Day Cup, which may run from September 12 to 29 in Faisalabad. Sarfaraz, who is a member of the Bangladesh line ' Test club, will continue to play.
Waqar was intended to take over as the board's cricket honcho, a position that would let PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi take the reins of making sport decisions. He also appeared alongside Naqvi at a press event in that position, an opening of combinations, at Gaddafi Stadium at the time.
Initially the PCB did n't give a reason for why Waqar is no longer in that role and had become a mentor instead, which is a three-year contract and was, in the PCB's words, the result of a" transparent and robust recruitment process". It had been suggested that both events thought Waqar may be better suited to a team-building function such as this, with more active role in the development of a part. The function of the assistant to the president is still being advertised.
Naqvi claimed that Waqar had played a significant role in selecting and appointing the various four coaches before taking up the second position himself at a press conference later that day in Lahore. " Waqar Younis assisted us for the last 3-4 month," Naqvi said. He is a great title, and a great bowler came along with us. He assisted in selecting the different coaches. He spoke to them, did anything. The second team had to be handled by him then. So in the first 3-4 days, in this whole training, he spoke to them, convinced them, to get them on board, and then he will solve the second team.
" As per the constitution we could n't hire him as a mentor straight away, only as an advisor. And he is now directing a whole team as a leader. "
In an earlier declaration, Naqvi had welcomed "five excellent leaders as mentors" for the Champions Cup team. " These inpiduals bring a wealth of cricketing experience, knowledge and expertise, which, combined with their passion for the game we all love, may help the Pakistan Cricket Board discover, develop and nurture the next generation of batsmen across all types. The Pakistan people's cricket team will gain from this action as well as help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket. "
