The Olympics begin next month, but the planet's most memorable player will not be present
The Olympics sports competition will debut on Wednesday, July 24 for the next big event of the summers, which will take place the following week.
Hot on the heels of Euro 2024 and Copa America, the activity in France will view 16 teams vying for an Olympic gold medal. The competition is an under-23s competitors, but with countries allowed to select three total gamers, we will still see some great names taking to the pitch.
But, Lionel Messi will not be representing Argentina, meaning the Inter Miami image will not be adding another Olympic award to the silver he won 2008. Why he wo n't be there, DataVictory examines.
Why is Lionel Messi not at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?
Javier Mascherano, a former midfielder at West Ham and former England, is now the country's national team's coach for the summer Olympics, and Messi was no chosen to lead his 18-man club.
Instead of Geronimo Rulli, former defender Nicolas Otamendi, and Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, who has the total casinos, will fill them.
This comes after Messi explained past quarter why he would not be playing in France this summer, in what would possibly be the 37-year-old's last opportunity to play in the Olympics.
" I talked to Mascherano and the truth is we both understood the situation", he told ESPN. " It's hard]to think about the Olympics right now ] because we're in Copa América. It would be two, three right months of not being with the team, and more than everything I'm not at an age to be in all.
" I have to choose carefully, and it would be too many to enjoy two right games. I've been really happy to play in the Olympics, of winning it together with Masche. On a sports degree, it was a fantastic experience. Olympics, U20, thoughts I'll not miss.
" It's amazing to have had the opportunity to go through everything." Because it's unique, I hope the men who get to come like it the same way I did. The Olympics are unique, different from anything else".
Messi won the Copa America with Argentina after explaining his decision to avoid participating in the game but injured his ankle in the last, which would have likely prevented him from playing in the game.
Tata Martino, the coach for Inter Miami, announced earlier this week that Messi may lose at least the first two of his MLS games while the injuries to his right ankle is being evaluated.
Argentina have been drawn against Morocco, Iraq and Ukraine in Group B, with their first match taking position against the American side on Wednesday, July 24 in Saint-Etienne.
After winning the title in 2004 under Carlos Tezev's leadership, Mascherano's part successfully defended it four years later with a club that included the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Juan Roman Riquelme, Angel Di Maria, Mascherano, Messi, and Sergio Aguero.
