The summer of 2024 has turned into a season of farewells, with another name added to the list of retiring stars—34-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. In a heartfelt message, Szczęsny announced his retirement, stating, "I dedicated 18 years of my life to football, and while my body is still ready for the challenges ahead, my heart is no longer in it. I feel it's time to focus all my attention on my family—my wife Marina and our two lovely children, Liam and Noelia."
Szczęsny's retirement follows his mutual agreement to terminate his contract with Juventus this summer, ending his seven-year tenure with the Bianconeri. He began his professional journey at 16 when he left Poland to join Arsenal's youth academy. Over his career, he played for Arsenal, Brentford, AS Roma, and Juventus, amassing over 500 official appearances. Szczęsny also earned 84 caps for the Polish national team. Although there were some hints about his possible retirement, the timing of his announcement still comes as a surprise.
