Even if a player plays an international game before the auction, he will stay in the unrestricted slab if he is retained while unrestricted.

A provisional rule that the IPL had eliminated in 2021 that allowed Indian gamers who had left international cricket at least five years prior to the appropriate season to enter the auction as unlimited players was also reinstated by the IPL. With this option, the Chennai Super Kings can keep original Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, who last played in a ODI World Cup game in 2019, uncapped.
