Vishwa Fernando, who did n't play the first Test, has been sent for rehab after picking up a hamstring injury
After batsman Vishwa Fernando injured himself, Sri Lanka's crew for the next and last Test against New Zealand has selected unlimited seamer Nishan Peiris.
In a statement released on Tuesday, SLC stated that" Vishwa Fernando had developed a stiffness in his proper hamstring while practicing." The fast bowler will go through restoration at the club's high-performance center.
Vishwa did n't play in the first Test against New Zealand, which Sri Lanka won by 63 runs, and with seam playing a limited role thus far, it's unlikely he would have found himself in the side come Thursday's second Test.
The 27-year-old Peiris, however, might have an outside chance of making it into the watching XI. Despite having made the Analyze club twice in the past, back in 2018 and earlier this year in March, he's but to make his debut. But with Ramesh Mendis ' performance coming in for censure from captain Dhananjaya de Silva following the end of the first Check, there is some uncertainty over his place in the team.
In the first Test, Mendis took six innings, including the crucial one taken by Daryl Mitchell in the subsequent wickets, which can be challenging when he's at his best when he's at his best. However, he often had no control, and his sluggishness often stifled the New Zealand batters. Though his effectiveness in the next pitches was much improved, his market price was still the poorest of Sri Lanka's bowlers.
Peiris has picked up 172 first-class innings across 41 games at an average of 24.37. He just turned out for Sri Lanka A in South Africa, where he picked up three batsmen in the first unofficial Test.
