Bangladesh had fallen short of the DLS line score and the Afghanistan allrounder was experiencing visible cramp just as rain began to fall.
Television critics were critical of Gauldin Naib's evident pain during Afghanistan's Super Eight match against Bangladesh in St Vincent because it occurred at a critical time.
Getting a win to count for the semi- finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Australia's cost, Afghanistan had only taken Bangladesh's sixth and seventh batsman in the 11th over with the report on 80. In the next over, after Bangladesh had fallen just behind the DLS line report, it appeared that Afghanistan manager Jonathan Trott was signalling to his people to try and slow the sport down with weather in the air.
Naib fell to his knees during the first-sead attempt between Noor Ahmad's third and fourth sales of the 12th over and fell to his knees. He was not moving in the field at the time he went along. Naib appeared to have therapy, and the ball started to drew to a stop as his team-mate Naveen la Haq and a representative of the assistance staff helped him off the field. Afghanistan commander Rashid Khan did not look pleased during the incident.
The damage and rain delay did not last long, though, and when play resumed hours afterwards, one over had been reduced from Bangladesh's fight and the DLS specific revised to 114. At that point, Najibullah Zadran was on the industry as a substitute for Naib, who eventually came back on the area in the 13th over. Naib next bowled the 15th over in Bangladesh's fight and took the wicket of Tanzim Hasan.
When asked about the event by Simon Doull after the game, Rashid played it down. " Rain is something that's not in your hand. It was on and away. Psychologically we were always there that we had to perform 20 overs and taking ten innings. That was the only means we could get to the semi- last. There was no other way", he said. " Gulbadin had some pain, I think. Finally, he will be nice. However, at that time, he gave us a significant innings.
Rashid claimed that the game did n't suffer greatly from the interruption. " Well, he]Naib ] had some cramp, I do n't know what happened to him and I do n't know what's going on in social media but that does n't matter- it's just the on- field injury which comes and then we have n't lost any overs, the rain came and we just went off, it's not something like brought a massive difference in the game. After five hours, we returned to the field, and nothing significantly changed. For me, it's just like a small wound comes in, then you have to take some time".
Time-wasting on the bowling or bowling area is a crime punishable by law. In the end, Afghanistan won the T20 World Cup semi-finals by beating Bangladesh by eight works to advance.
