Farooqi has led Afghanistan's demand in the T20 World Cup, moving the ball both methods to have the bowlers in difficulties
In the T20 World Cup 2024, Fazlhaq Farooqi has won two games off the couch in the IPL, setting a new record for ball. When Afghanistan is under pressure to win the Super Eight, he believes working with Dwayne Bravo may help him provide when his combined totals for three suits are 12 for 42 in 11.2 innings.

" For me, my mentality is straightforward", Farooqi told investigators in Tarouba. " Whenever I was playing in Under- 19 or Under- 16, I thought: I'm certainly the great man. I'm not quite fast-paced and high, and I'm not big. I was really considering how to develop my plate swing skills in a way that was different from what I was doing at the time.
Farooqi immediately turned his attention to the World Cup after realizing he would devote the IPL drinking water and not playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad this year. " Unfortunately I did n't get any chance to play in IPL but I was working on my skill, to improve my skill to do better for Afghanistan", he said. " I really try to give it my all and back up my skill," he says.
He has worked closely with Hamid Hassan, Afghanistan's ball mentor, but also has a extended- standing relationship with Bravo, who is with them as a ball consultant for this World Cup. They have played several seasons of franchise cricket together in the UAE, for both Delhi Bulls ( Abu Dhabi T10 ) and MI Emirates ( ILT20 ), and Farooqi has regularly picked Bravo's brains.
He said that Bravo's effect on Afghanistan's bowlers may be visible when they bowl at the dying in pressure conditions. " DJ Bravo, I am with him from past four decades. He merely wants to give us some advice on how to bowl in the death and how to bowl in important situations because I play on the same team every time. He is one's leader.
" He's an aged- basketball bowler, for the dying. But whatever I'm doing with the new basketball, that's my expertise. He only helps me. He says,' you're doing excellent' and that's the main point, if you got some help from the top players … He's giving me]tips], especially in the dying, how should I bowl in the pressure time, how should I apply the slower ball, how should I apply the length ball."
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's captain, singled Farooqi out for praise, comparing his impact with the ball to Gurbaz's influence with the bat". He deserves to have someone like him. The top order in the batting order hits the ball," Rashid said," like Gurbaz did when they went there. It's the same with the bowling unit as well.
" He's giving me]tips], especially in the death, how should I bowl in the pressure time, how should I use the slower ball, how should I use the length ball".

Someone like Fazal, who is starting to attack each and every ball, gives us a strong base as a bowling unit. And then it does help you in the middle overs as well if you get a couple of wickets … We are lucky to have him on the side]because he] gives us the best start with the new ball and then makes the job a little bit easier in the middle".
Jonathan Trott, Afghanistan's head coach, believes there is more to come from Farooqi. " He's been really good", Trott said. " I think when he gets his line and with the pace and the swing, he's very dangerous. I still believe he can bowl better given the talent at hand. I still think there's even better bowling in him: he's that talented".
Afghanistan face West Indies in St Lucia on Monday before heading into a Super Eight group that will also feature India and Australia. Although it seems daunting, Farooqi said that their recent victories, both against New Zealand in Guyana last week and against Australia at last year's 50-over World Cup, demonstrate their ability to defeat anyone.
" Before, we were a little bit pressurised", he said. We simply believed that we would n't be able to defeat the largest national teams or the full-member teams in the match. But when we won the matches in 2023 ODI World Cup, we now have found some confidence. Now everyone has belief in our skills … This is the first time we just qualify for the Super Eight and we are so happy. Back home, every people are happy and proud of us".
