After declining the team's offer for a new agreement, Emilio Gay did keep Northamptonshire at the end of the season. He is reportedly going to sign for Durham.

Gay, 24, a brilliant flour who came through the skill road at Wantage Road from the age of 15, made his first-class album for the state in 2019 and went on to establish himself in Northamptonshire's best order.

The left-hander boasts a strong first-class history, averaging 35.71 from 47 red-ball suits, with 19 fifty-plus ratings including six decades. His kind has stepped up a stage in 2024, with 860 works at 61.42 in Division Two of the County Championship- a total boosted by a career-best 261 against Middlesex in April. Gay has even represented Northants in 39 white-ball games.

" After the most significant, and wonderful decade of my life, this year will be my last with Northamptonshire", Gay said in a statement released on Thursday. " Northamptonshire enabled me to realize my childhood dream, to become a professional cricket player.

" Thank you to everyone at NCCC. I'm hoping to inspire the team. There have been a lot of people who have assisted me in my progress over the past ten years at Northants. I will never be able to thank all my team-mates, the mentors, team and fans much. My brain will always be drawn to Northants. Congratulate you."

Northamptonshire acknowledged that they were "naturally unhappy" to lose a self-sufficient individual, and wished Gay the best of luck for the upcoming chapter of his career.

John Sadler, the team's head coach, said:" From earlier we usually believed Emilio had become a high-class player. He has a great work ethic and this is one of the factors his game has developed so fast over the last two years. Emilio is really ambitious and thinks a new issue will be the best thing for him in his desire to play global cricket, which is unfortunate because of how far we can see his future. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to the beginning of his career.

The filing of Will Rhodes, who will follow from Warwickshire after rejecting an offer for a contract extension, is a smart move, and Durham is also doing so with the drafting of Gay, who is regarded as one of the country's most obviously gifted bowlers.
