WWE vs. WWE: How wrestling adapted from Bournemouth and Fulham to English soccer

The two biggest wrestlers companies in the world may get head-to-head.... via the Premier League

The only thing the Premier League and professional sports leagues had in common with one another was a dominance over Sky Sports ' programming for a long time.

Oh, and there was a strange rumor that Vince McMahon, the owner of WWE, planned to buy Newcastle United.

But usually, the planet's biggest game and the biggest sports-entertainment firm were worlds off.

That is no longer the case. The two have frequently crossed paths in recent years, in part because of the reputation of the Premier League on the other side of the Atlantic.

Wayne Rooney went to a WWE televised function, sat at row and slapped a singer. To put it another way, the original Manchester United player retired from the game about six years earlier.

The Emirates Stadium game setlist then began to often include WWE access elements as part of the Emirates Stadium game setlist in 2020.

Only earlier this year when Ivan Toney returned from his eight-month FA restrictions, Brentford heralded his returning with the Angel's classic bell and theme music at the Gtech Stadium.

And now the cross looks set to go to the next stage, with two adversary wrestlers offers facing off – not in the squared circle – but via the Premier League pitch.

Miss, Undertaker vs Triple H, The Rock over Stone Cold Steve Austin or Roman Reigns vs John Cena, it's time for the biggest key function of all-time, well … Fulham vs Bournemouth.

Why are Fulham and Bournemouth both connected to the wrestling earth?

Fulham's link to expert wrestling is historic and comes via operator Shahid Khan.

Tony, Khan's son, founded and co-owns All Elite Wrestling ( AEW), which launched at the start of 2019 and is the main mainstream rival to the ruthless WWE, while also serving as vice-chairman for the majority of the previous decade.

Khan, a longtime expert wrestler, has occasionally made an appearance on screen as a character in the drama, and the AEW has hosted significant life events at Wembley Stadium.

For the women's team ' tops during the 2024/25 time, AEW announced earlier this month that Fulham would be the new clothing sponsor.

In their own software, mentions of AEW and WWE's clear competitor are almost as uncommon as Sky Sports ' mention of TNT.

Until recently WWE did n't have a horse to back in the Premier League field but that has changed thanks to a new partnership.

AFC Bournemouth has announced what they call a "exciting new relationship with the renowned WWE 2K video game series."

In the coming weeks, information related to the Cherries may be made available through the film game.

But, until there is a true cross fight between WWE and AEW, wrestling fans will have to settle for watching Fulham take on Bournemouth at Craven Cottage on December 29.

There will be plenty of midfield elegance, not so much Ric Flair.
