Just a year after letting him leave, Manchester City may be about to reinstate their original captain.
Ilkay Gundogan is about to re-join Manchester City after only one year ahead.
The European midfielder quickly left for Barcelona a few weeks later after leading City to a traditional triple in 2022-23, which included the team's first Champions League.
But economic limits at the Catalan giant mean Gundogan is now on his way back to England with City on a completely transfer.
Yet, another Premier League midfield wonderful, Emmanuel Petit originally of Arsenal and Chelsea believes returning to the Etihad is a dangerous move for the player.
Why Emmanuel Petit has misgivings over Gundogan's City meeting
Gundogan's withdrawal from City was- at the time- a big blow for the leaders.
The ex-Germany captain, who quit global sports after Euro 2024, played a vital role in City's treble-winning strategy, making 51 images and scoring 11 goals.
He was now anything of a team star following his part in the amazing soon comeback against Aston Villa on the last day of 2021-22. Two later goals from Gundogan earned City the Premier League in serious conditions.
The midfielder was offered a fresh offer, but turned it down in order to move to the Spanish leaders.
And according to Petit, that may cause an issue for Gundogan this time, as he aims to get his place again in Pep Guardiola's team.
Ilkay Gundogan's departure from Barcelona would not be understood by Petit, who spoke to Safest Casino Sites.
" Even though they're the best team in Europe, Pep Guardiola does n't take back players who forced exits. Gundogan may be playing with old friends and may meet in the team excellent, but it's not how Guardiola operates.
" It would be very surprising. Gundogan is 33 years old then and he would be a bit of a gamble for any Premier League club, enable only Manchester City. "
