Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been at odds with Cristiano Ronaldo over a situation that he now wants to put the report right about.
Cristiano Ronaldo has yelled profanity at his detractors, who made fun of him for crying during Portugal's last-16 match against Slovenia this summer.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid sun was brought to tears immediately after he saw Jan Oblak save his extra-time penalty before he was able to regain his calm and score in the resulting fight as Portugal progressed into the quarter-finals in Germany.
But it was Ronaldo's tears that were the biggest post-match talking place, with a host of pundits, including the likes of Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on the Rest is Football radio, plus original England midfielder Didi Hamaan, who labelled the incident ' awkward.'
They were among the experts to issue Ronaldo's personality and skill to be a team player, but in a fired-up swap with his previous Old Trafford team-mate Rio Ferdinand on the UR Cristiano YouTube stream, the 39-year-old has moved to dismiss this censure.
" They do n't know nothing", he insisted. " It's much easier to reject than to understand what you really have. We know how the press works, if you speak]positively ] nothing sells, you have to speak]negatively ]. It's standard. And if you speak about Cristiano, it's coming on the first section because I'm the most used guy in the world".
Ronaldo was likewise asked by Ferdinand to discuss why he burst into tears on the pitch in Germany.
" When you have passion for what you are doing, you ca n't be worried about how you're feeling. For example, I cried the day I missed the penalty... when I cried, it's not because I felt that if I do n't score Portugal will be eliminated, and the world will collapse on me. It's not because of that.
" People, they do n't know me. Think that the last 27 sanctions, you score. Therefore you miss, and in that time, you feel awful for yourself. The people who come to the stadium, your children, your dad, your partner, people. I feel terrible because of that."
Ronaldo netted the 900th target of his job last week when he netted in Portugal's 2-1 Nations League triumph over Croatia.
