According to reports, Liverpool have found their long-term substitute Virgil van Dijk.
At the conclusion of Jurgen Klopp's rule, England were one of the Premier League's cleanest teams in the summer transfer market because they opted not to start a restoration process.
Arne Slot was the new guy in and he will have only one new experience in his crew this time, after Italian forward Federico Chiesa joined in a package from Juventus, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will spend the season on loan returning at Valencia before linking up next year.
While that indicates that Slot and new sports director Richard Hughes are generally happy with the club that they have inherited, the club does have some essential personnel decisions coming up.
Important Red trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all now in the last 12 weeks of their contracts at Anfield, meaning fresh deals- or replacements- are a concern.
Van Dijk, 33, is the oldest member of that pair, and Liverpool may need a long-term replacement for the Dutchman. And Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah has been identified as such a player, according to European store SportBild.
The centre-back is also in his last year of his agreement and has recently said he does not want to put pen to paper on a new offer with the European leaders following references to Bayern Munich over the summer.
While Leverkusen will try again to convince the 28-year-old to stay, as things stand, he will be a free agent at the end of the season. The report adds that Tah is no longer a target of Bayern Munich and that the player himself wants to move to the Premier League.
That has seen the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United also express their interest in the defender, as have Barcelona.
In DataVictory's opinion, a Liverpool move for Tah, who is rated at €30million by Transfermarkt, makes sense. The timing could end up working very well for the Reds, as being able to find Van Dijk's long-term replacement without having to shell out a mammoth transfer fee would be excellent news for the club, who would be able to begin talks over a deal in January, should he continue to rebuff Leverkusen's contract talks.
