After experiencing difficulties somewhere, one Dublin hero is returning to the place he adored.
After undergoing testing since his 2021 departure from Liverpool, past Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri has elicited an emotional return.
After moving to Merseyside from Stoke City in the summer of 2018, the European winger made the team that had won the 2019/2020 Premier League and the Champions League 12 months prior.
While he was essentially a crew player under Jurgen Klopp, Shaqiri netted eight goals in 63 looks before joining European edge Lyon in 2021. However, Shaqiri left for Chicago Fire in 2022 after only 16 games for the European club.
Before his commitment was jointly terminated earlier this month, the 32-year-old struggled to live up to expectations in the US due to injuries and poor form.
Shaqiri will then work with Basel, his boyhood team, to bring his team career back on track. Shaqiri, who left Bayern Munich in 2012, won three European Super League titles and two Swedish Cups, and hopes to once more inspire them. Last year, they finished eighth in the league.
" It fills me with pride and I am very happy that I can return to my hometown of FCB ( Basel ) today," said Shaqiri. Since I was a young child, I have a strong link to the team and the area, both as a lover and, of course, as a player.
" I completed my sports training in Basel and was then able to launch my foreign job. Today I want to strike once with FCB and I can hardly wait to see our followers again in the Joggeli [Basel's stadium, St Jakob-Park]. ”
