On Monday, Ange Postecoglou will be a gentleman of the match for his team's trip to the King Power Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur have suspended one of their first-team stars after a video emerged of the alleged player inhaling nitric oxide.
The Spurs, who travel to Leicester City on Monday for their 2024/25 Premier League strategy, claim that the player may miss just one sport as a result of a video leak. The 27-year-old has since apologised for a “severe absence of decision” given the “health challenges involved”.
In the UK, nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas or ref, is categorised as a Class C medication. Since 2023, using it responsibly has been outlawed, with a peak two-year jail sentence.
" He has obligations," director Postecoglou spoke following the internal suspension Jean Bissouma will now offer. He has obligations to the team, his colleagues, his supporters, and everyone else who is connected with the club, and he has failed to do those obligations. There's got to get punishment for that.
" He wo n't be available for Monday. We've suspended him from Monday's activity. Beyond that, there's some confidence building that has to occur between Biss and me, and Biss and the party. That's what he needs to work hard at from now on, to get that up.
" That's got nothing to do with one match. He may remain suspended for one match but he has to make that. He has a window available for him, and we can finally help him realize that the choices he makes affect others as well as him and enable him to make better decisions going forward. "
Bissouma played 28 days for the Lilywhites last year, starting 26 game in the Premier League. Postecoglou clarified what the Malian international needs to do in order to re-enter his plans, too.
" Attitude, partner. It’s rather easy," said the Greek-born Australian. " It’s him making better choices moving forward and behaviour. He’s evidently disappointed and he was very remorseful, not just to me but to the team and to everyone involved. But that ’s just the first part of the process, the next element is behaviour today.
Making positive he accomplishes what he requires, as well as for everyone else. We all make mistakes. What you do is much more crucial than what you say, and how you bounce up from those mistakes. "
