Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry has resigned from his post in the European federal installation
Thierry Henry has resigned as France under-21 manager, with a Fédération Française de Football ( FFF ) statement citing' personal reasons' for Henry's decision to depart the role.
The original Arsenal forward helped France's under-23s win an Olympic gold medal earlier this month when they lost 5-3 to Spain in more time.
An injury moment penalty from Crystal Palace scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta had forced the more half-hour of sing, but Rayo Vallecano's Sergio Camello scored a buckle in injury time to make Spain the gold medals.
Thierry Henry retires from France under-21s for specific reasons
Henry had been in the post since August last year, having formerly even stepped down as Montreal Impact director for personal motives in 2021: he had been unable to go to London to see his children when frequently has planned because of covid restrictions.
Henry said in an FFF statement:" I would like to thank the FFF and]federation ] president Philippe Diallo, who offered me this incredible opportunity.
One of my greatest joys of my life will be the silver medal won at the Olympic Games for my country. I am incredibly grateful to the Federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live a magical experience."
Diallo remarked," I want to thank Thierry Henry for the work he has done at the helm of the youth and Olympic teams.
" We regret making this decision because, 40 years after the Los Angeles Olympic medal, Thierry Henry was able to achieve the goals that had been set for him.
" Having followed him throughout this campaign, I was able to discover his great professionalism, his rigor and his love of the blue jersey. We wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career.
Henry began coaching after he hung up his boots in 2014, and he has also spent time coaching Monaco's under-19 youth team twice as assistant manager in Belgium and twice as its head coach.
