Aaron Ramsdale was initially Arsenal's No. Despite making only six club appearances last year, he was only allowed to make one appearance after joining the club.
Following his move to Southampton, Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that he parted ways with Arsenal.
The England goalkeeper, 26, has confirmed that he has spoken to Mikel Arteta since moving to the Emirates Stadium, where he has spent three times. Ramsdale made the decision to move to the south coast on transfer timeframe day after losing his position to David Raya next year.
He left the Gunners, but he is not angry.
Ramsdale admitted in an interview with talkSPORT radio that despite Arteta's brutal choice, he has already spoken with his original manager.
" I only spoke to him ( Arteta ) last week", said Ramsdale. I can simply thank him for what he did for me while I was a player at Arsenal, and he thanked me for it as well, helping the membership regain its Champions League status and pursuing a prize.
" Unfortunately, as professionals do, they have to produce decisions that will upset citizens and he made that decision but we still speak. We will have some games in a few months, which will be a good return, so I'm looking forward to having some of them here.
Ramsdale just made six performances next year but will be looking for more minutes at Southampton under Russell Martin.
The Saints have yet to get up a place in the Premier League after three activities, but Ramsdale did make his debut in the fight at Brentford before the global break. Alex McCarthy had started the first two suits, but made a pricey error in their 1-0 lost at Newcastle.
Despite that Ramsdale is expecting strong opposition to nail down the number one position from McCarthy and Gavin Bazunu.
" I think that comes with the territory of having one player in a position, "he added". If I do n't, they will be pushing me hard behind me. It's up to me to deliver on the pitch.
It's all about me and how I act, even though I now have a great relationship with them. They'll press me, and I'll be ready to push them away, he said.
