Xavi Simons, who went popular online as a young teenager when he was a girl, helped Netherlands defeat England 1-0 in the Euro 2024 match.
Despite being only 21, Netherlands forward Xavi Simons has been a recognizable player for many sports fans for the better part of a decade, mainly as a result of his social media status as a popular online experience.
Simons, 14, already had one million Instagram followers, and a dedicated social media team was tasked with maintaining his bill so that he could concentrate on his football career. The Dutchman amassed those supporters from the age of seven, when he signed for Barcelona's La Masia club.
Simons had record his mind-bending leadership and leadership abilities while he was in Catalonia, making him the most recent wonderkid of his creation. He was legally signed by Nike as a 13-year-old, hoping that his online success may boost the brand's reputation.
Others soon followed suit: the later Mino Raiola's firm in 2017, when he was still just 14. " He's a fantastic player and he has a great upcoming", Raiola said.
Given how much of his influence he had already had on Simons, it appeared like a journey to the Barcelona second team had been charted. PSG, though, had different ideas. Despite the fact that Simons was only 16 when he was signed, the French side offered him a deal that was said to be for €1 million a year.
Points did n't simply go to prepare for the forward, yet. Typical first team minutes became difficult to obtain, and PSV called in as he hoped for certainty in his future. Again in his homecountry, Simons thrived, scoring 22 goals in 48 activities in all events during the 2022/23 time.
Luckily for PSG, they had inserted a €6m buy-back section in the previous web sensation's agreement, which they duly activiated after one season before finally proceeding to product him out to RB Leipzig.
A successful 2023/24 plan earned Simons a call-up to Ronald Koeman's Netherlands club for Euro 2024, and he repaid that devotion with some brilliant shows. His exceptional ability was highlighted by his semi-final appearance against England, and Simons ' three help earlier in the tournament suggest that he might be living up to his position as a wonderkid.
