One England international experienced a turbulent some weeks where a transfer was halted due to a ban.
England people almost won the Euro 2024 trophy during a crazy summer, but for a previous Three Lions worldwide, things have gotten much crazier thanks to the transfer windows.
For Andros Townsend, merely knowing which team he is signed to has become an issue. The 33-year-old, who made 13 images for England between 2013 and 2016 and scored three goals, signed a short-term cope with Luton in October 2023 when they were in the Premier League.
In January 2024, Townsend signed a longer lease after impressing director Rob Edwards with his achievements. He remained with the team as they were relegated to the Championship, taking part in pre-season over July and August.
When Turkey Super Lig part Antalyaspor came calling, Townsend was opened to a new prospect, signing with them after appearing for only a minutes at the end of Luton's 4-1 battle to Burnley in their opening match of the Championship time.
A transfer ban has meant that Townsend ca n't officially be registered for Antalyaspor, however, while the club ca n't even announce his signing, too.
" I'm stuck in Antalyaspor just training, I do n't know who owns me, I do n't know where my contract is", Townsend told BBC 5 Live's Monday Night club.
In fact, Antalyaspor's transfer restrictions runs until January 2026, meaning if the dispute is n't settled, Townsend's job may be in purgatory for another 18 months.
" I've had a mad couple of weeks. Three days before the start of the year at Luton, I get a telephone call from Antalyaspor, saying' we have an offer for you but you've got 24 hours to respond because we've got a transfer restrictions coming and we need to get you in before the transfer ban'.
" But, no time to think about it. I managed to negotiate to get involved in the first match for Luton, played ten minutes in that and then it was absolutely all signed, all done. We missed the deadline by a couple of hours. The contract is signed]but ] they ca n't officially register me, they ca n't announce me because they have a transfer ban.
Townsend continued, adding that he simply does n't have a clue what is happening or where he stands.
" Every day I ask them, they say' the contract is signed, you're our player'. But nothing has been announced", he added. " There were so many red flags, you would n't believe it. But something was telling me this is the right move for me, to go and experience anything new in Antalya which is a wonderful area right near the beach. Everything was telling me to make it occur.
" I made the decision, I thought, to move out below. Actually, I've no idea what's happening and what's going to occur.
" I keep getting told' wednesday, tomorrow, monday'. Every time I ask what's happening they say' do n't worry you are our player, you're contracted to us, you ca n't go anywhere'. I'm really here".
