For the T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B, Trevor Gwandu makes his 15th appearance in the club.
Zimbabwe have named the unlimited duo- allrounder Tashinga Musekiwa and quickly bowler Tinotenda Maposa- for the T20 World Cup local qualifiers to get played in Kenya this month, to try and generate a spot for the major tournament in 2026. The candidates also recalled hard bowling Trevor Gwandu in the 15-man club which sees 11 people from the line against India in July.
Zimbabwe go into the six-team T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B under new head coach Justin Sammons with a fresh crew with an average age of 26, a Zimbabwe Cricket transfer said. Sikandar Raza, a seasoned professional, may serve as the team's leader. The tournament also includes Gambia, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda and the Seychelles. Namibia and Uganda will advance to the local last, which will feature the best two teams.
Musekiwa, 24, has only 21 T20s to his title- apart from one first-class activity and 29 one-dayers- for Mid West Rhinos. His best performances come in the form of 3 for 24 of his full wickets, which total ten. His T20 higher score is 38. He most just scored an unbroken 51 in the second half for Zimbabwe Emerging when the South Africa Emerging side faced off in two one-day games.
Maposa, 21, has featured in five first-class matches for 14 innings and is yet to enjoy white-ball games in local cricket. His next set was the Logan Cup in which he played four red-ball activities for Matabeleland Tuskers in January-February for 12 innings with one five-for.
In the launch, chairman of candidates David Mutendera stated," We have chosen a fresh crew that is good enough to make us count." " If you look at the way we are taking, with the 2026 T20 World Cup and the future in mind, we have been blooding in children who will surely do the job like they did in winning one games against Bangladesh and India in our last two line.
Raza is still in place for the time being, but we needed to begin preparing for a younger team for the future.
Gwandu makes his comeback after playing at home against Ireland in December 2023. After playing the local T20 competition for Southern Rocks in March this year, he also played for Zimbabwe Emerging, but in the American Games in Accra, Ghana, where Zimbabwe won the tournament.
