Allrounder ends job with 54 T20Is and 15 Wickets to his title
After their last T20 World Cup 2024 group game defeat to England, Namibia all-rounder David Wiese announced that he is retiring from foreign cricket.
In a rain-shortened complement in North Sound, Wiese and another England participants walked over to shake his hand after Jofra Archer sent him off in the last over of Namibia's fight. Before being greeted at the bullpen by his team-mates, including skipper Gerhard Erasmus, he raised his hat and pitcher as the masses as he left.
" I mean ,]the next ] T20 World Cup is still two years away, I'm 39 years old now, so, in terms of international cricket, I do n't know if there's much left in me", Wiese said in the post match press conference.
" Obviously, I]would ] still like to play the game for a couple more years, I feel like I've still got a lot to contribute and a lot to play", he said. " But I really feel like what better place to end a specific profession for me personally with Namibia. It really seemed like the right time for me to enjoy my final game for them against a world-class team like England, despite how many great times we've had together.
Wiese, who typically bat in the middle order, was promoted up the order to No. 3 with Namibia needing to hunt 126 in 10 overs. Before scoring a long-on, he hit a 27-of-all with two legs and two innings as England continued to record a win comfortably.

" Yeah, he just does n't want to open, so probably the next time we can get him in quicker", Erasmus joked after the game.
" However it was his last game, which is a fantastic time for him to perform like that in his final game", the Namibia captain said.
" Large influence, in terms of the amount of cricket he brought to our group. He performs really well on the field, but off the field, he has taught us a bit, and he has inspired us to reach new heights and levels," Erasmus said.
After the match, England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow even praised Wiese.
In the post-match press conference, Bairstow stated," I think it's a great credit to him the career that he's had in global cricket, and that he's going to be a great miss for those guys, and it's a credit to him how nicely he's played over for a long period of time."
Five decades after making the decision to join the Kolpak, he became eligible to play for Namibia. In the first round of the 2021 T20 World Cup, he made his Namibia album, where he was crucial in their progress to the Super 12 level.
He has today represented Namibia at three T20 World Cups in a row. In Namibia's just victory of the 2024 plan, Wiese returned 3 for 28 against Oman before scoring with bat and ball in the Super Over.
He has played 34 T20Is for Namibia, scoring 532 plays and returning 35 innings. He has even played nine Wickets for them, scoring 228 plays and taking six innings. In all, he has played 54 T20Is and 15 Overdose Is.
Wiese might play company cricket in the future. In the last 12 weeks he has played the CSA T20 Challenge, the PSL, SA20, Hundred and the Blast. In the Hundred, he has been retained by North Turbochargers.
