The latest Club director will be the youngest ICC chair at the age of 35.
Greg Barclay will succeed Jay Shah as the fresh ICC couch, and he was defeated in the election. On December 1, he may start his new position.
At 35, Shah, now the BCCI director, is the youngest to keep the article. The board of directors had until August 27 to submit nominees for the next seat once Barclay, who had served as the ICC head for two conditions since 2020, had informed the board that he would no longer serve for a second term. An election was solely held if more than one participant had been nominated, but Shah was the only one.
Shah, who was nominated to lead the International Cricket Council, said in a speech," I am humbled." In order to promote global cricket, I commit to working closely with the ICC team and our representative countries. We stand at a crucial juncture where it is extremely important to compromise the coexistence of several formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and present our star events to new international markets. Our goal is to make cricket more diverse and popular than ever before.
" While we will develop on the important lessons learned, we may also adopt new considering and innovation to raise the love for cricket worldwide. The addition of our game in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a substantial inflection point for the growth of cricket, and I am convinced that it will drive the sport forward in extraordinary ways."
Shah is the second Indian to mind the ICC after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar.
After beginning his cricket management job in the state of Gujarat in 2009, Shah has been the BCCI minister since October 2019. He joined the ICC's renowned Finance & Commercial Affairs ( F&CA ) committee in 2022, and he assumed its chair in 2023. Shah was likewise re-elected as BCCI minister in 2022 and his career was to move until 2025. When he takes over as the ICC head, he will have to abandon his place at the BCCI and at the ICC's F&CA commission. From 2021 to 2024, Shah served as president of the Asian Cricket Council.
