It's important to allow people to have freedom, as I believe, and not to have a player and a head coach connection.
In addition to winning the T20 king, India made significant progress during Rahul Dravid's two-and-a-half-year tenure as their brain coach. They reached the finals of a world championship in each of the three types. Today the focus is on developing on those benefits and the person leading them forward may be Gautam Gambhir, their new head coach, who understands he has "big boots to fill".
Gambhir touched on how he wants to work with India's people and what they can hope from him when he first addressed reporters for his new position. " It is very easy," he said on Monday in Mumbai. It's important to let people have their freedom, as I believe that's what I believe, and not to have a player and a brain coach.
" The best partnership is one built on trust. The most important thing is they'll often have my support. I do n't complicate too many things. I am taking over a really, really successful team- India are T20 world leaders, have been runners-up in the World Test Championship and the 50-overs World Cup. "
Gambhir's career begins on July 27 with India's white-ball journey of Sri Lanka. Although he has previously served as a leader in the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders and the reigning leaders, he has never been head coach of a team. He had a 13-year foreign occupation that culminated with World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011 and was a top opening batter in his playing days.
" My teaching has been straightforward- it has been all about winning," he said. " I do n't deviate from something. There can only be one win in our profession. We try and play good, we try and play hard, and try and come up in a winning dressing room and a glad dressing room.
A winning grooming space is what the saying goes. Unfortunately it is the athletes ' team, the support team is there to try and get the maximum out of their ability. International cricket may be challenging at times, and it can be challenging due to the limited number of picks available. It is the work of aid staff to keep them happy. "
Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate may serve as assistant coaches for Gambhir's Sri Lanka journey, and Sairaj Bahutule will serve as ball coach. T Dilip, thus far, is the only one to reprise his role from the past government. The pitching coach may get him. The other support staff members, Gambhir said, may be finalised after the Sri Lanka trip.
" For batters, if they can play consistently and if they are in good form, [they ] might as well play all the games. With Rohit and Virat then no playing T20 cricket, they just have two types to look after. But they'll be accessible for the majority of the games.
Gambhir has n't advocated for players picking and choosing matches in the past. Virat Kohli will take the opener against Sri Lanka, while Rohit Sharma will take the lead. One of only two International matches that India is scheduled to play before the Champions Trophy in the first half of the year is scheduled to be played.
Gambhir said that task management is essential for strong batsmen but batters need to perform all games if they are healthy and available.
" Job control for someone like Jasprit Bumrah is essential," Gambhir said. " For batters, if they can play consistently and if they are in good form, [they ] might as well play all the games. With Rohit and Virat then no playing T20 cricket, they just have two types to look after. So they are going to become available for most of the game.
Because he is one of the few bowlers that anyone would want [in their team], it's our responsibility to try to keep him clean for the majority of the crucial matches. But, workload management for, not only Bumrah, but strong batsmen becomes very, very important. "
