Through a pre-draft agreement ahead of WBBL 2024-25, which is scheduled to begin on October 27, the Sydney Thunder have secured Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu's solutions for the next three months.

Athapaththu, who played for Thunder next year as an undrafted player, filled the fourth outside gambling on their roster. She finished the year with a Player-of-the-Tournament efficiency in Thunder's fourth-place end, scoring 552 works at 42.46 and taking nine innings.

" Committing to Sydney Thunder for the next three months was an easy decision because I believe in the perception of this team, and I want to be part of its future accomplishment", Athapaththu said.

" There's so much to love about my Sydney Thunder home. My team-mates are not just coworkers, they are friends who push each other to be better every moment, ]which] is important to me. American Sydney is the heart and soul of Sydney Thunder and representing like a stimulants and vibrant area is a privilege to possess. It's been an extraordinary journey thus far, and I'm so excited for what's back".

Athapaththu has signed under the team's new multi-year deal provision, unlike in previous seasons when international players were only contracted for a year in the WBBL. Each team will be able to sign one foreign player for up to three years after the document, which will take place on September 1.

" Chamari is clearly an excellent cricket player, but she is also an excellent human being who is team second and fan initial", Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland said. " We made every effort to assure she came again," she said." We know various groups were interested in signing her. It was quite remarkable to witness her embrace and interaction with our fans and individuals last summer, and she had one of the WBBL's best seasons on the industry.

Athapaththu has had periods in the WBBL recently with Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers. Last year, after not being selected in the document, she was added to the Thunder crew as support for their three international players. Fire opened their 2024-25 battle against Hobart Hurricanes on October 28.
