" I'm going to enjoy the way I've been playing so far, nothing did change", says India's new T20I captain
The new president of any organization enters in the cliche, shakes things up for the sake of stamping their personality on the organization, infuses fresh ideas, and places themselves at the center of everything. It happens usually in TV musicals. In reality, perhaps even more so.
Suryakumar Yadav does not really be that kind of chief, though, if we are to trust what he is saying. He promises to be a steady hand on the steering ahead of his first game as lasting captain ( he has previously led India in seven games in time terms ). And why would he be anything else? Even if none of their stars are on screen in this series, India still has a majority of their World Cup-winning troupe. However, they do n't have any Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli to call on in T20Is. Why try to fix what is not broken?
" The same coach will remain," Suryakumar said. " Only the website has changed. The bogies ( carriages ) are the same. "
If this sounds joyful, it's because India's fresh captain has cause to be. His contrary, Charith Asalanka, is inheriting a team that is struggling to qualify for significant international competitions.
India, however, do not just include a World Cup-winning team, they also have an IPL-winning coach in Gautam Gambhir. He and Suryakumar have worked up before at Kolkata Knight Riders. Suryakumar exuded their friendship in glowing terms.
" It's now been 10 years since we've been working up, even though I went into a different company in 2018 and he also went to another. We used to keep in touch, communicate about the sport, even if we were in various clubs. When I was n't with him for six years, there have also been lessons learned.
" Our relationship is unique, we have spoken about the future three T20s, not in great information but we know each other very well, we can examine each other's body language. Even if I do n't express them in words, some things he understands. There's a special relationship between a captain and coach. I'm really excited for this voyage. "
Gambhir is not the only one who has sowed into the Suryakumar trip, yet. In addition to leading the Indians in earlier IPL conditions, Rohit has also played for the Indians. Rohit has taught him lot, Suryakumar said.
" What I've learned from Rohit is that he is often a leader on and off the area, not just as a captain, there's a huge difference in the two. A chief teaches his people how to perform T20s and how to win games, and I can attest from him. "
On his own, violent batting design, Suryakumar does not believe the captain to be any impediment.
" I do n't think my batting style will change, as such. There will be strain, but stress is always there, then there's no enjoyment in playing. I'm going to enjoy the means I've been playing thus far. Everything will change. In fact, it's better for me because I may clearly show the team what kind of cricket we should play in T20s in the future. I'll enjoy it more and can probably pass on the pressure on to others ( laughs ) and enjoy my game. "
