The balances may have been tipped against him because of Hardik Pandya's health concerns.
Suryakumar Yadav is set to be appointed India's fresh T20I captain away of Hardik Pandya, the former vice-captain of the area, for the forthcoming visit of Sri Lanka. Suryakumar takes over from Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, after leading India to T20 World Cup splendor in the Caribbean last quarter.
Though Hardik was Rohit's assistant at the T20 World Cup and is a more skilled captain- he has led India in three ODIs and 16 T20Is, aside from leading Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in the IPL- it is understood health concerns and workload management does have tipped the scales against him.
Who should be India's full-time T20I captain?

Shubman Gill
Hardik had suffered an ankle injuries during the 50-over World Cup at home next October-November and was out of action until the start of IPL 2024, when he returned to direct Mumbai. He returned for national work only at the T20 World Cup. In reality, Hardik has featured in only 46 of the 79 T20Is India have played since the start of 2022.
Suryakumar, however, has formerly captained Mumbai in the local loop. More late, he led India to a 4-1 line win over Australia in the T20I set last November, followed by a 1-1 set scoreline in South Africa. Suryakumar is also listed as one of the format's first-choice India XI second brands.
After the T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid may replace him as India's coach, and Gautam Gambhir may start his new role in Sri Lanka's T20Is. It serves as the first step in the preparations for India's 2026 co-hosting of the next T20 World Cup.
After winning the T20I set by 4-1, a young Indian club led by Shubman Gill only returned from Zimbabwe. The club included only three players from the side that won the World Cup.
It is understood that the candidates may join on Wednesday to finalise the touring group. Along with three T20Is, the visit will have three OD Is.
