The batsmen did a fantastic job of making a match out of that pitch.
Rohit Sharma has said that India were willing to risk getting bowled out for a low score in the first innings in a bid to get a result from a pitch that "did n't have much for the bowlers". Due to the rain and damp outfield, between, the Kanpur Test's second and third days did not have any action.
However, India second defeated Bangladesh for 233 in the first pitches, picking up the final seven innings for only 121 works in the final two days of the Test, and finally declared on 285 for 9 in only 34.4 overs to take the game back in the dying moments.
" We had to think a lot]about ] how the game can keep moving forward once we lost two-and-a-half days", Rohit said after India wrapped up a seven-wicket win on the fifth day. " When we came on time four, we thought, okay, let's try and get them out as quickly as possible and then see with the pitcher what we can do. Once they had got 230-odd, we said it was not about the works we get but it was about the wickets we wanted to bowl at them. Because the pitch had so few batsmen to play on, we had to try to increase the run-rate and increase the score as much as possible.
Yashasvi Jaiswal even spearheaded his T20 activity, scoring 23 off only 11 balls, including the first two he faced for consecutive sixes, while Rohit himself made a dazzling start. He scored a 51-ball 72 in the first pitches and finally a 45-ball 51 in the next, thus becoming the first Indian to reach thirties in both innings of a Test in less than 50 balloons.
" To make a sport out of that pitch was a very energy from the batsmen, and then for the pitchers to get into that thought of going and getting the plays as quickly as possible", Rohit said. " It was a chance we were willing to take that when you're trying to bird like that, it is very simple that you can find bundled out for a lower score as well. But we were ready with that aspect because also, that even if we get all out for 100-150, we wanted to give ourselves a chance to be in the sport and try and get a effect".
R Ashwin, who was adjudged Player of the Series for his all-round present, even concurred. He picked up 11 innings, the joint-most in the set, and scored 114 works including a decade in the first wickets in Chennai.
" When we bowled them out yesterday a little after lunch, Rohit was very keen]to get a result ]", Ashwin said. " He said, we at least have 80 wickets to dish at them and the moment he came in and gave that talk]that ] we are going to go after it and even if we get all out under 230, I mean, we set the rabbit amongst the birds.
" It's not only him saying it but he went out there and hit his first]two balls ] for a six. Everyone follows you in that direction, as you have clearly done.
Rohit even heaped compliment on Akash Deep, who provided critical breakthroughs in the two-Test line. In the first pitches in Chennai, he bowled Zakir Khan and Mominul Haque off subsequent balls and then in the Kanpur activity, returned three innings including that of second innings half-centurion Shadman Islam.
" He's been good ,]coming on the back of ] a lot of local cricket," Rohit said". When you you come up through the ranks like that, there's plenty innings in the feet. He has played a lot of cricket, but we know that the person you do the job that the team is expecting him to perform. He's got the superior, he's got the abilities as well and the person has excellent system as well. He is both quick and powerful bowlers.
Because there is too much cricket going on these days, a lot of wounds, and other similar things, we want to develop a group of batsmen who are ready to enjoy Test cricket at any given time. You must ensure that you prepare yourself and your bench power so that you can take their place if someone is injured.
Jasprit Bumrah, who finished with 11 batsmen in the two-match line, also praised the three-Test ancient Akash Deep saying he has "got a lot of brain".
" He comes up to me quite a bit before his charm and asks me what is happening, what do you think I may do", Bumrah said. " We've had a lot of interesting discussions. It is the power he brings onto the ball, gives it his utter best in the field and as well as when he is bowling. He's got a lot of spirit, so that's a great indicator for us going forward as well. And whenever he comes into dish, he gives his overall best. But, yes, I'm pretty happy with the way he's moving and maybe he goes from strength to strength".
