England switches to a three-spin attack, with Potts and Carse replacing Atkinson as the only frontline fast.
Harry Brook believes that a native groundstaff "raked" a three-pronged roll strike on a Rawalpindi pitch to try to take Pakistan's bowlers into enjoy. Rehan Ahmed has been called back and will sing alongside Shoaib Bashir and Jack Leach, with Gus Atkinson joining a team that is missing Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse.
Rehan has n't played in any other formats since February, but he did three Tests in India at the start of this year. England, who went to extraordinary lengths in an effort to clean out the pitch in Rawalpindi after a 152-run win on a repurposed band in Multan, think they will have him as a second spin frontline option this week.
" They've had the rollers away, the viewers and the heating on the pitch", Brook said. " Everyone goes and looks at the wicket and says something different … Hopefully, it's just like any other Pakistani pitch. It's great to bat on for the first several weeks and then finally, we can get a bit of change out of it at the back end of the game".
The move is a chance, leaving Atkinson and Ben Stokes as England's just two fast-bowling possibilities at a place that has previously suited hole over roll. However, it has also been among the best at batting since making its return to hosting Tests in 2019, as England showed with a popular win below two years ago.
" I think the circumstances are going to be a little bit diverse", Brook said. " We played on an incredibly smooth pitch below next day. It was wonderful to bats on, and we scored a great rate of knots. This show's likely going to be somewhat different. It may change earlier on: who knows? The beautiful square at Rawalpindi perhaps had informed England's choice, with reverse-swing unlikely to be a big factor this week. It was in Pakistan two years ago that Rehan made his international debut as an 18-year-old, taking 5 for 48 in the next wickets in Karachi to set up England's eight-wicket earn, which clinched a 3-0 clean sweep. Since then, his advancement has not been horizontal, and he was pricey in India earlier this year, allowing more than four works per over in three appearances and taking 11 wickets for 44.
Rehan's returns to white-ball cricket fell apart after two pricey adventures and was dropped by Southern Brave earlier in the year after being outclassed by his off-spinning younger sibling Farhan in the County Championship this summer.
But England have been long-term friends: Rehan was reportedly a gross bowling at the age of 11 and has been in the regional set-up throughout his expert job, starting at Under-19s levels. He is heading into the next season of a two-year key contract, and has also worked on his bat this summer, with four Championship thirties, and will boost England's lower attempt from No. 9.
Carse and Potts are both officially rested, with Atkinson returning after taking match figures of 4 for 145 in England's innings win in the first Test. Carse has been England's outstanding bowler of the tour, taking nine wickets at 24.33 across his first two appearances, but has bowled 67 overs in the series and has played back-to-back Tests.
