Perth Scorchers ' Ian Allen has a two-year deal on the books.

The opening from New Zealand turned down a major contract next week, and he will play in the BBL.

Finn Allen, who turned down a national key contract, may now work for the Perth Scorchers on a two-year offer.

Allen became the latest New Zealand player to leave a commitment to pursue franchise opportunities earlier this year, according to ESPNcricinfo, and a decision regarding the Scorchers ' move may be made in the coming days.

Just three BBL clubs, including Adelaide Workers and Sydney Sixers, had yet to make a pre-draft filing under the new contract-making system, which allows multi-year discounts, even though West Indies left-arm spin Akeal Hosein has been linked to Flyers.

Allen's initial inclusion in the NZC contract list was made public last month, so it's assumed that the Scorchers ' interest only recently emerged. He will not be able to play in the later December white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

Allen's T20 hit rate of 168.60 is the next highest for any dough with at least 3000 works in the file, behind even Andre Russell. At the global stage, Allen has scored two T20I generations, while he also made a significant influence against Australia at the 2022 T20 World Cup, when he flayed 42 off 16 balls against Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins to set the tone for New Zealand's great success. But Allen had a trim T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA earlier this year, with only 35 works in four pitches.

He will be the third New Zealand player confirmed for the BBL, after Colin Munro ( Brisbane Heat ) and Tim Seifert ( Melbourne Renegades ). Seifert turned down a private contract with Northern Districts, while Munro actually retired from foreign cricket earlier this year after missing the T20 World Cup squad.

Scorchers struggled to fill the starting position vacated by Cameron Bancroft's move to Sydney Thunder last year. England's Zak Crawley made two half-centuries in six innings, but there were thin selections for the others used, including an ineffective move of promoting Cooper Connolly.

Signing Allen ahead of the document means it is uncertain if Scorchers will provide Laurie Evans again after he was remarkable last year, with 292 runs at 58.40 and a hit rate of 189.61, before leaving for the ILT20. It's understood Scorchers did explore the possibility of Evans being the pre-draft signing, but availability was an issue with him having an ongoing deal in the UAE with Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.

Scorchers could still take Evans in the draft- and would have retention rights for him- but he is expected to be limited to around seven matches. The ILT20 has advanced next year due to the Champions Trophy taking place in February. The SA20 is taking place simultaneously, which means there is much more overlap with the BBL.

On September 1, the Scorchers will have picks 7 through 15 and 18 from 31.
