Nawaz results as Bangladesh U- 19 manager, sets sight on 2026 World Cup

As trainer, he helped Bangladesh get the 2020 People's U- 19 World Cup, and hopes to replicate the success for 2026

In 2020, Naveed Nawaz led a strategy that won Bangladesh the Under-19 World Cup. He intends to use the same tactics to secure the exact piece of flatware that will be up for grabs once more in 2026 when he returns as manager of the Youth team.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Nawaz last quarter after Stuart Law's deal was not renewed. Legislation was Bangladesh's mind coach in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, but has since joined the USA people's national team that reached the Super Eight period at the T20 World Cup 2024.

Nawaz, who returns after spending two years as Sri Lanka men's associate coach, said that Bangladesh's fresh batch of Under-19 players may face increased expectations- merely like he may- having previously been champions.

" This desire is on the people as well in a country like Bangladesh, where individuals are almost mad about cricket," Nawaz said. " They love the sport so much. People may carry the burden of objectives. Coming back to Bangladesh after winning the [ Under-19] World Cup in 2020, obviously there will be expectations [on me], but I think I have to focus on other things. It has been four times since winning the World Cup. There's a lot of work to be done.

" As often, BCB has laid down a excellent program like in the history. In the next two decades, we will put our shared experience to use, covering every basic this group of boys may encounter. We want to offer them as much knowledge as possible. Offer them the trust, help them grow. The main focus of this activity is on the people. We may create a joyful setting for the people.
