Angelo Mathews issued an apology to Sri Lanka on behalf of his team- companions on Saturday, saying they were "heartbroken" to include "let the whole country down". Their class- level return from the T20 World Cup 2024 was confirmed when Bangladesh beat Netherlands in St Vincent on Thursday.

Sri Lanka lost both of their completed games at the T20 World Cup, against South Africa in New York and Bangladesh in Dallas, and had their device against Nepal washed out in Florida on Tuesday. Due to their first removal, a female's T20 World Cup semi-finals have been reached ten years ago.

Their competition has been characterised by logistical issues. They were one of two teams that were scheduled to play their party games in four different locations, which caused Maheesh Theekshana, their spin, to criticize the fixture list as being" so cruel." But Mathews, the most mature person in Sri Lanka's club played down their effects.

" We've allow the whole country over and we are really sad because we've let ourselves down. We always expected this", Mathews said. There are no worries about those problems that we encountered. It's unfortunate that we did n't make the second round".

In a game that is a dead-rub for them, Sri Lanka will experience Netherlands in St Lucia on Sunday nights. Nepal must skip Bangladesh in terms of online run rate in order to qualify for the Super Eight, but they must rely on Nepal to secure their first victory against a full-member team.

" We ca n't take any given team lightly", Mathews said ahead of Sunday's match. " We saw Nepal nearly beat South Africa yesterday. Our Nepal sport is terrible because it was washed away, but it is still there. We'll perform for our pleasure in just one more game of the event.

" We have n't done justice to ourselves, especially the way we played in the first two games, so it's very unfortunate. We are heartbroken, and we are hurting so many within ourselves. However, tomorrow is another day before we face the Netherlands, who are a very, very risky team. Therefore, we hope to play properly and beat them."

Sri Lanka came into the T20 World Cup after three subsequent T20I set wins since December and Mathews said it was annoying to have unperformed". That's something we regret because]with ] the way we played Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh in Bangladesh, I thought we did n't do justice to our capabilities in this tournament.

" When you come into a World Cup, you ca n't take any team lightly but unfortunately, the way we played against those teams just before the World Cup, and then once we came back here and the way we played, obviously the wickets were quite different but we did n't do justice to ourselves".

Mathews, then 37, even said that on the personal entrance, he had made no tough decisions on his whitened- ball future. He has been a constant occurrence in the Test part over the past few years, but had been dropped from the minimal- overs teams until the latest selection committee brought him back.

He might be able to attend the next T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka does co-host in 2026. However, it's probable that his T20 World Cup appearance may be his last against the Netherlands.

" I play every game as if its my final game", Mathews said. " Everything in existence is selected. For the team, I'm making every effort possible. I do n't have big hopes about the next game, or the next series. I have some time to consider all of those and choose a course of action. From my side I have n't settled on anything. The candidates ' ideas are needed, more than me. I'm playing because of the like I have for the game- whether that's for the federal team or my team team".
