Lauren Filer, the England quickly bowler, has joined Durham on a three-year package, ahead of the league's lady time as a Level 1 children's state in 2025.

Filer, the fastest bowler in England's present ranks, follows her global team-mate Mady Villiers as another important signing for Durham, who have taken over from Headingley-based North Diamonds as the northern-most representative in the fresh women's home set-up.

Then aged 23, Filer made her dot on the worldwide sport during last season's Ashes, including a memorablly angry debut in the one-off Exam at Trent Bridge. To time, she has played 17 games across platforms for England, but was overlooked for this season's T20 World Cup in the UAE.

She heads to Durham after coming through Somerset's road, having made 41 looks for Western Storm since signing her earliest professional deal in 2020, with her best images of 3 for 8 coming in this month's Charlotte Edwards Cup.

She has even appeared for Welsh Fire, London Spirit and Manchester Originals in the Women's Hundred, and claimed an England-best drag of 3 for 10 during the current ODI set against Ireland in Belfast.

" I'm very excited to make the move up northeast," Filer said. I have a lot of fond memories of playing cricket in Durham.

" The values the league holds as a whole were really important to my move up to the North East and they hold all I think is important for a successful and healthy atmosphere.

" After the change to the children's architecture, it's important to keep the children's game moving in the right direction, and I believe Durham has the support and equipment to do that. With this vision and the extremely talented group of girls we have, it's very exciting to see what we can do. "

Marcus North, Durham's Director of Cricket, added:" We are delighted to have signed one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in England. We are eager to welcome Lauren to Durham because she is already regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the women's game since debuting at the Women's Ashes last year.

" Our squad is coming together nicely and with the addition of Lauren she adds a huge point of difference with her pace and quality. " We look forward to supporting Lauren's goals for England and playing a key role in developing a strong women's team in Durham." "
