Strong bowling expected to win album during five-match ODI set against Australia
When England plays an ODI set against Australia, they will test their fast-bowling prowess with seven bowlers. A limited schedule of five matches in 11 days- starting at Trent Bridge on Thursday- does require some degree of rotation, which may aid Hampshire's John Turner in his long-standing bid to make his foreign debut.
Turner is 23 and just finished an economics and finance education at Exeter University this summer, but has been on the borders of England white-ball choice for over a month. He was a first-team pick for the T20I set against New Zealand next summer, but he was sidelined with an injury and then left the Caribbean tour in December.
After last week's drawn T20I series, Turner looks set to win his first cap in an additional two Australia OD Is, not least because Jofra Archer's workload is being managed, and three of England's seven fast-bowling options ( Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, and Olly Stone ) are flying to Pakistan for Test series days in October after the final ODI on September 29. The late addition of Saqib Mahmood to the crew on Tuesday more demonstrated that ordinary adjustments will be made throughout the series.
" Just being in the club is a cool knowledge for myself", Turner said. However, you certainly want and hope to make your debut sometime in the collection, which will likely happen at some point because you become more adept and knowledgeable while playing alongside other teams and players.
I'm certainly in a much better position than I was this year, but I'm still not far behind in terms of the finished product." I think the way you approach the game with various players and different situations is what I end up taking from these kinds of situations.
Turner, who was only a child when he first arrived in the UK four years ago, has an undeniable Southern American accent. However, with a bowling average below 20 in all three types, his speed piqued England's attention during his first T20 appearance for Hampshire next summer. He has since taken regular batsmen throughout his younger professional job.
England are also hoping to identify a middle-overs wicket-taker in the Liam Plunkett mould and Jos Buttler- who may enjoy this series from the sidelines according to his calf injury- hinted last week that Turner could be used in a related role". ]It's about ] finding ways to break partnerships and take wickets, which is crucial in those 50-over games," Buttler said". Having great speed is certainly a method of doing that."
Turner broke the 90mph/145kph challenge while playing for Trent Rockets this year and describes himself as" normally cut-throat". His first hundred and one-year career began in a strange way, when he was taken out of the attack against London Spirit after four consecutive beamers, but he immediately recovered, taking five innings in his next two sports.
He has enjoyed the challenge of playing in the Hundred -" frequently bowling against the best … you're constantly under stress"- and in particular, having his velocity tracked". Post-game, I'll probably end up watching every single ball back to see what speed I was at… it's quite handy to know at times: almost do n't try too hard and it works itself out."
Turner believes that there will be" healthy competition "among England's fast bowlers in their ODI series". I've never played for the same team as Jof, so I'm probably not going to be as quick as him. But if I'm bowling with him, if I see his speed on the board, I'll be like,' let me see if I can match him.' I'm naturally competitive, and I'll always want to move the fastest.
" It's probably healthy competition if we have that as well … Pace is my point of difference, but around that, I want to have the skillset also to be able to compete. The crowd enjoys watching sixes and boundaries, but I believe it's quite enjoyable to watch guys bowl 85+ with pure speed." It's always exciting to have a full stock of fast bowlers.
Turner's ambitions cover all formats, despite having only participated in the County Championship twice this year. He missed the start of the season with a knee injury and has struggled to break into a Hampshire seam attack which boasts both Mohammad Abbas and Kyle Abbott as spearheads.
" Just being in and around them has been a good learning area for me: they've helped me improve my game immensely", Turner said. That's definitely how I want my career to go. I'd like to be an all-format]player]: Test cricket, white-ball and franchise stuff. I do n't really want to put myself into a single category".
