In the first innings, Peiris kept one end small while Jayasuriya was bowled violently in the next.
In the first Test, Prabhu Jayasuriya was forced to work hard for his batsmen. They had once been ingloriously perched at 1 for 99, even when he finished with images of 4 for 136 in the first pitches it. He was given his usual Galle five-for when he batted in the second inning, which was attributable to his flip colleagues, who had much more control in the first innings.
But Sri Lanka, acknowledging that Jayasuriya needed more constant assistance, made the bold call of replacing the sometimes-wayward Ramesh Mendis, with debut Nishan Peiris. And on moment three of the following Test, Peiris proved that he is a more-than-able sheet to Jayasuriya's sustained quality.
On time three, Jayasuriya took six innings for New Zealand, including five for the first pitches and one for the next, while Peiris took six for himself. With his single scalp, merely Dhananjaya de Silva may separate the two.
" When you bowl with him it is very easy," Jayasuriya said of his younger team-mate at the end of the day's play. " I did n't feel he was on debut. He showed his full potential in test cricket and bowled with great assurance. "
The ancient adage'bowlers function in pairs ' is accurate in most cases, but on tracks for as Galle, where despite the turn on offer, the first and most essential quality for any player- batter or bowler- is patience. Applying pressure from both stops is important.
