' It's never a practice surface, it's an international sport '- Rohit Sharma keeps his focus on the present

India ODI captain says team may be looking to hit Sri Lanka first and foremost, rather than using this line as a screening ground for the Champions Trophy

India have only won a T20 World Cup. There is no ODI World Cup for another three times. But so what, says Rohit Sharma. This three-match series against Sri Lanka is also top-flight global cricket.

India believes that the series is worthwhile winning on its own merits, despite the attractive temptation to view it primarily as an opportunity to test. Deep within his own mind, Rohit also believes he is a T20I player despite having retired from T20Is and not being selected for the line that was just played.

" I dunno', I feel like I have just been rested from the T20s, like it used to happen in the past", Rohit said casually. " Then there will be a great event coming up and we have to get ready for T20 once".

Sri Lanka's men's team is n't simply leading ODI opposition at current, having placed seventh in last year's World Cup, and therefore having failed to qualify for next week's Champions Trophy. However, according to Rohit, India are also determined to improve themselves.

" You get asked a bit whether this collection is a preparation for the World Cup, or is this a preparation for the Champions Trophy", he said. " It's never a training ground- it's also an international sport. We may keep in mind our goals, but they are not going to be done by hand or through exercise. We want to come around and enjoy great cricket and find something out of the collection.

" Of sure we want to consider all probable, but when you're representing the region the quality of cricket may be the way it is, and how we've played over the last few decades. Instead of focusing on it as a readiness and saying," Let's go out and chill out in Colombo," that is more important. We do n't think like that.

We want to make money off of both a line and a game when we play it. We may tell a bowler: ' We want something unique from you.' We may show a dough:' This is how we want you to play in the middle innings.' We want to see something in the series, but we do n't want to risk going out with no purpose or intention. For me, the regular of Indian cricket is more crucial".

The team may avoid resting on laurels as much as they can, according to Rohit, despite their recent successes, including finishing runners-up in the ODI World Cup and one-step much in the T20 centerpiece. In modern cricket, the game moves so quickly, you ca n't let the opposition steal a march.

" In terms of what we want to do- it's not just one specific place we're looking to improve, it's the overall game. In sports, you ca n't just sit happy doing something. You have to keep moving forward, and you have to maintain moving up and challenge yourself. There's always something new to learn when you play a line and when you play a sport. Whatever we have done, it was great for that special day, but moment keeps moving forward".
