Every franchise league must have priority, otherwise cricket wo n't expand.
Former India quickly bowling Jhulan Goswami believes "franchise cricket is the future of children's cricket" and that it's time T20 teams are prioritised over diplomatic line. Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in women's OD Is, has been the bowling coach and mentor with Mumbai Indians ( MI ) in the Women's Premier League ( WPL) for the last two years and is set to join the Trinbago Knight Riders coaching staff for the upcoming Women's CPL.
" It's a huge problem for women's cricket", Goswami said on ESPNcricinfo's Powerplay radio about the timeline conflicts. " Before we saw these things happen for people's cricket but not expected it to happen for children's cricket, but that's happening. And I'm glad to see that. The ICC needs to take care, brand cricket is the future of children's cricket. And that's the progress of women's cricket worldwide. You have to give focus to every company league usually cricket may not grow".
The club-versus-country conversation in children's cricket has become louder especially in the last couple of times as T20 teams have started to grow around the world. Major Australia players like Meg Lanning, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath pulled out of the women's Hundred last year to maintain their workloads in a busy 2023 which included the girl WPL time along with the T20 World Cup, the multi-format Ashes, and the WBBL apart from other intergovernmental assignments. In order to concentrate on local cricket, India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana had likewise pulled out of the WBBL for the second time in a column in 2023.
A similar timeline fight came up when England's tour of New Zealand coincided with the last phase of the WPL in India earlier this year. As a result, England captain Heather Knight chose the diplomatic trip over playing for future champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, while her team-mate Lauren Bell even pulled out of the WPL. More late, Chamari Athapaththu, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh missed the first week of the children's Hundred while featuring in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka next month.
" See how many quality bowlers were produced by company cricket in the last few centuries, starting with WBBL as well as the Hundred, WCPL, WPL", Goswami said. " A lot of youths they've provided every month so you have to give focus to those panels and after that you have to have diplomatic line. If you have your diplomatic set and franchise teams clashing then you will lose out on excellent cricketers. And if you do n't have quality cricketers then your tournament is not going to be successful. In women's cricket we do n't have a lot of options, a few quality cricketers we have in the world. If they're occupied in diplomatic line, therefore the volume of the]T20] games is going to go down. We should make sure that when the premier league ( franchise ) tournaments are going on, give them certain windows and after that you have the bilateral series. It will help women's india's rise also. That is my private see".
A busy timeline awaits for the rest of 2024 as effectively. When the children's Hundred finishes on August 18 at Lord's, the three-team WCPL will be played from August 22 to 30 in the Caribbean, featuring foreign players from India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and Australia. The T20 World Cup, which will take place in October, may move the motion, and the WBBL will begin on October 27 and December 1. Seven weeks after that, the action may move to the T20 World Cup. That's the moment the house season kicks off for Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, India and New Zealand. All these groups are even scheduled to host global games in December and January, according to the FTP.
