Says Gambhir, whom he'll continue to work with in Sri Lanka after his lady India call-up, boosted his trust to support him manage stress better when at KKR
Strong bowling Harshit Rana, who earned a lady India call-up for the Wickets against Sri Lanka, has said he owes much of his victory to Gautam Gambhir "above all more". Rana, 22, worked with the new India head coach Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR ) this year and, like Gambhir, made his way up through Delhi cricket circles.
" I believed in working hard but whenever I used to getting hurt after being overlooked in age-group team, I would stay in my room and start sobbing", Rana told PTI after the India crew was announced. Singh, my father, always gave up hope.
" My father, my personal coach Amit Bhandari sir [former India and Delhi pacer], and above all Gauti bhaiya [ Gambhir], are the three people I am indebted to in this beautiful journey of mine.
" If my view towards the sport has changed, a lot of it has got to do with Gauti bhaiyya's appearance in the KKR washing area and how he changed my thinking. At the elite level, you require abilities, but more than knowledge you require the center to handle the pressure.
" Gauti bhaiya would always say, Mere ko her pa trust hai. Tu match jeetake aayega'. ] I trust you, you may get the match]."
Rana had a beautiful 2022-23 first-class time with Delhi, picking up 21 innings in five Ranji Trophy activities, but finally wounds prevented him from playing a lot of red-ball cricket. With the bright game, nevertheless, he has been wonderful for Delhi: 22 innings in 14 Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, and 28 in 25 Mian Mushtaq Ali T20s.
At IPL 2024, in front of a packed Eden Gardens, he managed to hammer his blockhole deliveries, large yorkers and sluggish bouncers to end as the game's joint-fourth-highest wicket-taker, playing his portion in KKR's move to the subject. How did he survive adversity?
" If my view towards the sport has changed, a lot of it has got to do with Gauti bhaiyya's appearance in the KKR washing area and how he changed my thinking. At the elite level, you require abilities, but more than knowledge you require the center to handle the pressure."
" If you ask about the stress element, it is Gautam Gambhir's tips," Rana said". He had say,' what's the worst thing that will happen? You will get hit and we can reduce the match. But if you do n't face your fears, how will you overcome them?'
" ] I learnt ] there will always be a new day, a new match and things will fall in place. That's what you train for".
Leading up to his IPL achievements, Rana had trained under Bhandari and Narinder Singh Negi at Delhi's Players ' Academy. " If you talk about skill-set, next Bhandari lord and Negi dear have been my private tutors for the past two decades", Rana said.
Bhandari, a Delhi brave who played two Batsmen for India between 2000 and 2004 and is now an associate coach with Gujarat Titans, spoke to PTI about the time he spent with Rana. " I did n't know who this boy was", Bhandari said. " In truth, when he came to me, he had never played for KKR but had played Ranji Trophy. He just called me up and said,' sir, may you teach me?'
" First day he came, I did n't give him a new ball but an old ball and told him the areas ]he needed to bowl ] with an]added ] instruction. Do n't look at me or approach me; just bowl. If I feel]the need], I did visit you."
What Bhandari saw pleased him much to start working with Rana". What I saw was a great run-up but when he reached the seam, after load-up, all needed a bit of labor. The non-bowling side, positioning... And he was ready to work."
If Rana receives his first India cover in Sri Lanka, he'll wish it all pays off. The tour begins with three T20Is starting on July 27, with the first Wickets starting on August 2. This is Gambhir's primary task as India coach.
