If opening is called off for paternity duty, England should create backup plans.
As England prepares for the upcoming birth of their first baby, Ben Duckett prepares for a last-minute change to their programs for the following Test at Trent Bridge.
The opening arrived to England's training camp on Tuesday morning after being with his fiancee Elizabeth for the first time on Monday when they both entered and exited the nets. Prior to Thursday's launch in Nottingham, Duckett's preparations for both a kitten and the West Indies attack are made easier by the fact that this is Duckett's home Test.
England announced Duckett in their starting lineup on Tuesday, and they anticipate that he will be able to start the match on Thursday night. If Duckett is pulled out before the shove, Dan Lawrence, a free dough, is prepared to pitch in if the situation changes.
" There's a plan in place for Ben and his partner", Ben Stokes said during his captain's press conference on Wednesday. " We'll just have to make a decision if it was to happen before the game started.
Ben will simply leave the team if something occurs throughout the Test match. He's evidently determined to sing at his apartment floor but the information from me and Baz is household always comes first. Whatever choice you end up making, you'll find the assistance of me and Baz."
Following James Anderson's retirement at Lord's, Stokes also confirmed that Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes may play the new game. Atkinson about stole the show on his debut last month, taking 7 for 45 and 5 for 61 to help England win by an pitches and 114 works.
That these were Atkinson's second and third five-wicket busts of his occupation speaks to a relative absence of first-class experience. Not only was Lord's only his 20th red-ball look, but across 38 pitches in the field, he has opened the ball only seven days.
Even though Atkinson has gained a lot of limited-overs cricket practice, his last appearance was against a Sri Lanka Development XI in May 2022. He has fulfilled the role five days for England in three Batsmen and two T20Is.
Stokes has complete faith that Atkinson is ready to take the field and believes that starting with the 26-year-old may have a positive impact on the rest of the ball attack. Mainly because the Dukes has been behaving a much different in English problems over the last few years.
" He really had all the characteristics of a very, very fine bowler. A lot of it is to do with the Dukes game, how it has behaved," Stokes said.
" There has never really been that little movement in the air with the fresh ball. It's usually been off the floor, hitting the hole, and Gus is a very great exponent of that.
" At 10 to 12 innings, you receive a shield on one side, and that is when it really starts to jump," says Woody and me. Anyone who bowls at 94 mph while the game is swinging will struggle.
