The strong bowler from Australia took two T20I hat-tricks, joining a select group of people.
As Australia faced Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight, Pat Cummins won his second hat-trick in three weeks, becoming the second bowling to score two in people's T20Is, and he recalls going one this time.
He repeated his miracle in St Vincent after winning a hat-trick against Bangladesh in Antigua. With the last game of the 18th over, he had Rashid Khan caught at longer in, then with the first game of the 20th removed Karim Janat the same way before Gulbadin Naib hoicked to strong midwicket amid Afghanistan's last press for works.
" Yeah, remembered this one", Cummins told the journalist between pitches, in reference to him forgetting he was on a helmet- key against Bangladesh. " Crazy to find two in a row after playing 100 plus matches for Australia".
He could have had four wickets in four balls- a miracle achieved by Ireland's Curtis Campher during the 2021 T20 World Cup- but David Warner missed a prospect at strong square when Nangeyalia Kharote swung to the foot part.
Cummins joined Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Serbia's Mark Pavlovic, Malta's Waseem Abbas as having two T20I helmet- games. Pavlovic chose to play three games in the span of two weeks in 2023, despite having already played three matches that day.
Cummins became the next person to get a hat- strategy in subsequent global matches after Wasim Akram who did it in subsequent Tests against Sri Lanka in March 1999. In each innings of a 1912 test match between South Africa and Jimmy Matthews, both players scored hat-tricks on the same day.
