Jordan Cox replaces Dan Lawrence as the starting pitcher for his first Examine series against Josh Hull.
Brydon Carse could be in line for a Test comeback, just days after serving a ban for betting abnormalities, while Jack Leach is back in England's ideas for the first time since the tour of India in February, after the pickers named a 17-man club for their three-match set against Pakistan, which gets underway next quarter.
Carse, 29, is one of six frontline fast batsmen in England's club, alongside the left-armer Josh Hull, who has been picked for his lady Test trip after claiming three innings on comeback in the last Evaluation of the summer, against Sri Lanka at the Kia Oval.
His addition comes in the wake of the neck damage that has ruled Mark Wood, England's fastest bowler, out for the rest of the time. In May, Carse was suspended from all cricket for a total of 16 months ( 13 suspended ) after pleading guilty to making a total of 303 bets on cricket matches, including Durham games in which he was not playing.
Carse was permitted to continue education during his restrictions, and marked his returning to actions on August 29 with a decade against England at Taunton. His participation adds another 90mph solution to England's rates, alongside Gus Atkinson and Olly Stone, who will also make the trip.
Chris Woakes is likewise recalled for his first international relationship since the visit of the Caribbean in March 2022, despite misgivings about his success away from home, where he statistics 51.88 compared to 21.59 in the UK. However, having been installed as the leader of England's bowling attack since the retirement of James Anderson earlier this year, Woakes responded well to the responsibility, claiming 24 wickets at 20.25 against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

On the batting front, Dan Lawrence has paid the price for his frenetic displays against Sri Lanka, in which he made 120 runs at 20 in six innings as a makeshift opener, including a top score of 35. Though he was playing out of position, as a stand-in for Zak Crawley, his performances mean he loses out to Jordan Cox, the uncapped Essex batter who had been with the Test squad in Crawley's absence.
With only one month until the first Test of the Pakistan series, Crawley, who injured his right thumb while playing for Edgbaston against West Indies, is back in the squad and is reportedly making" significant progress in his recovery."
England's captain, Ben Stokes, who missed the Sri Lanka series due to a torn hamstring sustained during the Men's Hundred, is also included, having stayed with the Test squad to work on his rehabilitation throughout the Sri Lanka series, in which Ollie Pope led the side to a 2-1 series win.
With the unusual size of their squad, which could reflect the uncertainty surrounding the venues, England are unsure of the location of the series ' staging. A PCB spokesman earlier this week confirmed that Rawalpindi and Multan had been chosen for the three Tests, which will start on October 7, but that official confirmation is expected later this week.
