Just three members of South Africa's wooden crew who visited New Zealand in February were chosen for their upcoming red-ball assignment, which will take place in August against West Indies, are David Bedingham, Dane Paterson, and Dane Piedt. While Bedingham is seen as key to the future of South Africa's extended- format bowling, Paterson, 35, has been included to increase knowledge in the lack of Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen, and Piedt, 34, to have a subsequent spinner in addition to Keshav Maharaj.

The rest of the players were all part of South Africa's home set against India earlier this year with the exception of flour Matthew Breetzke, who has earned his second Test call- up. Breetzke is already a member of a North African A part that traveled to Sri Lanka final year. He is now playing for Northants. With Dean Elgar's new international retirement, he is expected to provide batting again- up to a top five that may possibly include Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma, David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs.

Ryan Rickelton, the wicketkeeper-batsman, has been called back after last appearing in a Test against the West Indies in March 2023. He will face off against Kyle Verreyne, the current gloveman, for the No. 1 spot. 6. Wiaan Mulder, who also played Tests at home against West Indies before Jansen was let go from the tour, is the only seam-bowling all-rounder in the squad.

In light of the season-long demands, test coach Shukri Conrad made the decision to rest Marco Jansen to allow for a conditioning period aimed at ensuring optimal physical and mental well-being.

Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi will lead the pace attack, with Nortje's departure from a central contract this year and his desire to concentrate primarily on T20 cricket being taken into account. Paterson and left- armer Nandre Burger are the other two pace options.

South Africa's first- choice Test players have not been in action since the New Year's Test, which they lost to India after being to miss the New Zealand series and honour SA20 commitments. South Africa lost that series 2- 0 and sit in seventh place on the WTC points table, but have only played four matches. They have eight more Tests scheduled for this cycle, with two in the West Indies, two in Bangladesh in October, and two in a home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They hope to put themselves in a position to make the WTC final.

" This tour is extremely important for us as we aim to improve our standing in the ICC World Test Championship", Conrad said. " We have, therefore, selected our strongest possible squad and look forward to strong performances in the Caribbean".

Those members of the squad who are not involved in the MLC or on the county circuit- Bavuma, Breetzke, de Zorzi, Mulder, Paterson, Stubbs and Verreynne- will take part in a four- day training camp in Durban before departing for the West Indies. On August 7, Trinidad will host the first test, followed by Guyana, which will follow.
