BCCI vice-president defends Kanpur as Test place but concedes need for changes

The floor's rights structure and age both made it difficult to redo its outfield, according to Rajiv Shukla.

After two weeks of playing at the next India-Bangladesh Test being abandoned, one of the features at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, which were canceled despite no rainfall during the scheduled hours of play, has been defended by BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.

" Well, criticism is one thing that the BCCI's leadership in cricket is used to." But everything is being criticised," Shukla said on Monday. " When we are not giving matches to Kanpur because [of certain reasons], then even I was being criticised. We are currently giving the match, but I continue to be demonized for giving it to Kanpur. That continues, then.

" You know the problem is that this earth is around 80 years old. It is our history floor. If you recall, it was a continuous testing facility. The original six lasting Test facilities were Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Kanpur. This is a continuous heart. Thus, the concept was to play test matches below. For the first time in over 80 years, the rain prevented us from holding the game for two weeks. "

On both the second and third times of play, which were lost, there was surprisingly little rainfall. The drain system appeared to be unable to manage the strain caused by the time leading up to perform both days.

Shukla, who was born in Kanpur and wields significant effect in UP cricket, said there have been no fits abandoned at Green Park ( a 2017 Duleep Trophy activity, however, witnessed no sing on three out of four days ) and finally conceded the need for improvements.

No match has been abandoned around in Kanpur, according to record. Due to the floods, games have been canceled at numerous locations around the world. So here if for two days the match could n't take place, I do n't think there should be too much hue and cry," Shukla said. " When this earth was being built, and the stadium was being built, then those systems were not accessible. Then technologies are available. Like in our Kolkata stadium, we have got that systems. And in Varanasi, we are building another stadium. There we have got high-tech, current technology to take away the rainfall.

" Here even we are planning. Now I had a discussion with management about how we can create this system by which the rainwater may soon be [drained]. "

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association ( UPCA ) uses Green Park Stadium in accordance with an MoU they signed with the UP government. The UPCA is in charge of maintaining the stadium and the property, but the government owns it based on the MoU.

Because this stadium belongs to the government, I had a lengthy conversation with government officials when I arrived. We are in partnership with them," Shukla said," But, now for that, the earth has to be dug, innovative technology has to be applied and everything has to be done. Therefore, soon after coming here, I had a conversation with the authorities and they are also on the exact page and I think we will be able to increase the conditions around quickly.

" Sometimes it happens, though we all pray to [the rain god ] Lord Indra, not to rain, but, you know, it happens. And it happens throughout the world. Why are Kanpur and Green Park disproportionately held responsible for something that is in the arms of nature? "
