The alleged incident happened during the 2023 ODI World Cup, for which he has been suspended for two days and will be "terminated immediately" after; Phil Simmons takes over his role
The BCB has fired Bangladesh's mind coach Chandika Hathurusinghe for allegedly "assaulting" a player during the 2023 ODI World Cup. He has been suspended for 48 time in lieu of a notice time, and he is to be "terminated quickly" after that period. He was even served a show-cause see by the committee.
The BCB even announced the appointment of Phil Simmons, the original Zimbabwe, Ireland, West Indies and Afghanistan head coach, as Bangladesh's interim head coach until the Champions Trophy in February 2025.
At a press conference in Dhaka on Tuesday, Faruque Ahmed, leader of the BCB, stated that" Hathurusinghe has two counts of misconduct." " First is about an assault on a player. Second, he took too many leaf, more than what was in his deal".
The suspension-cum-sacking is because of an event at the 2023 World Cup when, during a match against New Zealand in Chennai, Hathurusinghe reportedly hit a player during one of the coffee breaks. The player's response to the drinks break was revealed by ESPN. He had been given the task of taking out his batters in the middle, which had caused Hathurusinghe to react somewhat. Visible witnesses reported the incident to the BCB's higher-ups in Kolkata two weeks later, but it went unanswered.
Ahmed also said that Hathurusinghe was guilty of misconduct as a BCB worker because of all the more left he took. ESPNcricinfo understands that Hathurusinghe's deal with the BCB capped his leave at 45 times per month, but he took 112 times in 2023 and 59 times till time in 2024.
The BCB's general professional Nizamuddin Chowdhury handed over a text to Hathurusinghe, informing him of the selection, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, hours before Ahmed's press statement.
" There were few of situations about the latest coach which, for me as a past player, were very painful", Ahmed told the media. We have served him with a show-cause notice and a suspension from his duties as head coach today because it does n't set a good example for the Bangladesh team. His expulsion is for a 48-hour see phase, which we are not bound to give him. But we did it out of courtesy as he is an international number. We have suspended him, and with immediate effect later he will become terminated.
" There was a misconduct with a player, and wrongdoing as an individual. He also spent more than three decades ]on leave], that is also a big portion of his wrongdoing. He informed us in a distributed approach, in one or two letters, that he has to go home. It ca n't be for more than three months. Perhaps as a board leader, I don't do what I want. I am guided by some guidelines. It is the rule. So there was a major violation in that consider."
The target is not very pleasant about it, according to BCB, no naming the player involved in the incident.
Ahmed had not title the player involved in the alleged abuse event". It was a terrible tragedy for the specific player. I am no defending people, whatever may happen in the heat of the moment, but you cannot beat a player. It is not on. This is the appropriate punishment. It should have happened some time ago, "he said.
" The target is not very secure about it. I will never mention his name. We may only speak about the wrongdoing. This incident may n't include happened."
Ahmed said he had read about the affair before he became the BCB captain, and he started an investigation after being elected to the article in August.
" I investigated myself. I spoke to the sufferer. I spoke to the witness," Ahmed said". The report presently contains both of their types. ]The incident ] was mentioned in a previous record.
When I read about the tragedy last month, I can recall feeling incredibly let down. At the time, I believed there should have been things done. The ICC is very strong about racism and misuse. They would be more critical about abuse".
In February 2023, Hathurusinghe made his second appearance as Bangladesh coach. In August this year, soon after Ahmed was appointed as committee chairman, he had said that Hathurusinghe may no longer remain as Bangladesh's head coach. Ahmed said Hathurusinghe's sack had nothing to do with "personal causes" though.
" When I spoke about Hathurusinghe previously]before being elected BCB president ], I spoke as a former player who was assessing a coach. I said at the time that he does n't have much more to give to Bangladesh. My decision today is n't influenced by personal reasons.
Under Hathurusinghe, Bangladesh produced disappointing appearances during next week's ODI World Cup and this year's T20 World Cup. His biggest success in this tenure was Bangladesh's 2-0 Examine collection win against Pakistan in August. It was their girl win in Pakistan, and second outside Examine collection win in 15 times. But, following that, in India, they lost 2-0 in the Checks and 3-0 in the T20Is which included a 133-run pounding in the next match.
Simmons was chosen after BCB had spoken with" a number of instructors."
Ahmed praised Simmons ' appointment as interim head coach. He claimed that the team has a proven track record and has worked for various businesses and in different nations. Simmons may serve as the head coach for the home Test set that will begin against South Africa next week and run until the Champions Trophy in February 2025. Bangladesh may also play an all-format gig in the West Indies and enjoy an ODI series against Afghanistan during this time.
" Pippin' Phil Simmons has been chosen for the time." His first contract is up to the Champions Trophy. He was head coach in various locations. He has a very good track record. He has worked with many companies, including games like the Pakistan Super League and Major League Cricket.
" He has had a good job as a coach. We spoke to a number of tutors, and we got a really hard-working guy".
