After being rejected by Delhi Capitals (DC ), Rishabh Pant will be one of the prominent names at the 2025 IPL mega auction. ESPNcricinfo has learned that conversations between DC's ownership group and Pant failed after stretching over the past few decades and Wednesday. The brand, though, has retained four people: the roll piece of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, South Africa flour Tristan Stubbs and unlimited Indian wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel.

At the bid, DC may have two RTM cards options, and it is believed that they will try to resign Pant from the role as the franchise's key player, including taking over the captain in 2022. With three capped and one uncapped retentions, DC's purse will be depleted by at least INR 47 crore ( 18+14+11+ 4 ) and they will have INR 73 crore to build their squad at the auction.

Axar had been with DC since 2019, his second franchise after Punjab Kings ( PBKS), Kuldeep since 2022 ( after five seasons with KKR ) and Porel since 2023. Pant, Kuldeep, Axar and Porel had all been retained by DC before the last bidding where the company had bought Stubbs for his base rate of Rs 50 million ( estimate. US$ 60, 000 at the time ).

DC will have to choose a new captain in the event that they are unable to purchase Pant again during the auction.

More to pursue...
