Alyssa Healy: ' Not here to support the title, these to win it'

We are aware of what the other nine will put at us. We see this as a chance to promote a popular company of cricket.

Australia have won three headings in succession following their unsuccessful T20 World Cup win over West Indies in India in 2016. Questions have been raised about their infallibility as they travel to Asia to try to find a fifth consecutive title.

They whitewashed New Zealand 3-0 in the T20I set at home next month, razed down Bangladesh on some strong innings in Mirpur in April and overturned a ten-wicket banging to hit India 2-1 at the start of the time. Upon entry in Dubai for the T20 World Cup, they beat West Indies and England in the warm-ups.

However, there have also been sporadic blunders, such as the T20I set battle to England and the absent matches against South Africa and West Indies on both sides of the children's Ashes.

On Wednesday, at the captains ' pre-tournament media session, Alyssa Healy, the Australia captain, was n't going to understate their achievements but also gave a peek into the way the players have trained themselves to think.

" You do n't come here to defend the title, that's not what the World Cup is about, you come here to win it", she said. " So we are here with that method. Our pool]Group A with India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka ] is really a difficult one. We've got to get past these clubs to have a chance of lifting the trophy. So it's a challenge I'm really thrilled for".

That no team has played a lot of cricket in the UAE- they will all be playing in Dubai for the first time- adds to the beauty of what could be the closest-ever female's T20 World Cup. Healy stressed resilience, even though it has no all been about training and matches. The rest of the American team spent a day at the water park in conditions that may check the athletes ' fitness, while Healy had to provide internet commitments.

" The complete game, in general, is about adapting the quickest", Healy said. That appears to be the preferred method. If you look at the warm-up game, ]it showed ] you've got to adapt very quickly to what you're given. The team with the best performance throughout the game is likely to be able to accomplish the most. We feel like we're also placed to do that and maybe, we can do it".

This will be Healy's second T20 World Cup as full-time captain, she was given the role last December after Meg Lanning announced her global retirement. Healy had previously filled in for Lanning, including at last year's Ashes, without knowing whether Lanning may ever make a comeback.

Did that make her feel like she did n't have full control as captain?

" I would n't say I still have full control", she said, tongue-in-cheek. " I think I approached it like I do every day in life. You approach each day as it comes. Obviously, when she]Lanning ] decided to step away from the game officially, there was a process in place. I put up my hand for it and got the job, and it's been really entertaining thus much.

When given the chance, the other nine will say," We know what they're going to throw at us." We see it as a challenge and an opportunity to" showcase" a brand of cricket we enjoy playing.

It's been good for me at this point in my career to learn more about myself, my team-mates, and me as a whole, so I'm very glad.

Healy was n't perturbed by the prospect of teams coming at Australia either.

" It feels like, without being rude, we have been hunted for a long period of time," she said". We're constantly being asked about that, and we're used to it now. Our favorite team is working really hard at us to put us in the compressor.

" This World Cup is going to be no different. We know what the other nine are going to put at us given the opportunity. We see it as a problem and an opportunity to promote a popular company of cricket.

Australia open their strategy on October 6 with an evening match against Sri Lanka in Sharjah. Before playing against Pakistan in Dubai, they last face New Zealand. A high-voltage fight between India and them on October 13th in Sharjah will cap off their league games.
