Head coach pays rate for bad year, as helpers take over for majority of battle
Following the successful conclusion of their year in the T20 Blast, Northamptonshire fired head coach John Sadler.
Northants finished ninth out of nine clubs in their Metro Bank One-Day Cup team, winning two game out of eight games, and are winless in Division Two of the County Championship. The Blast had been their only hope during a terrible time, but Thursday night's beat saw them eliminated from contention.
In his first full year in command, Sadler succeeded David Ripley in taking over in September 2021 with a sixth-placed end in Division One of the Championship. However, the results have been mixed, with only two Championship victories in the last two years, culminating in fall, and a second-tier winless 2024 plan.
Emilio Gay did not play in the club for Thursday's quarter-final after agreeing to a move to Durham at the end of the year, while Adam Rossington and Josh Cobb both left the club while Sadler was in charge. Tom Taylor also rejected a fresh lease with the club to join Worcestershire during Sadler's time in charge.
Northants confirmed on Friday that they have "parted business" with Sadler. " Throughout his tenure at Wantage Road, ]he ] has led the club with professionalism, dedication and a strong work ethic… and has been a much valued member of the Northamptonshire team", a club statement said. Everyone at the team wishes him the best of luck in his coming endeavors.
The team's associate instructors- Rory Kleinveldt, Greg Smith and Graeme White- did take command for Northants ' three remaining Championship fixtures. " The approach for selection of a replacement for the place is underway", Northants added.
