As the state's fresh women's head coach, Rich Pyrah, one of the 16 team members who was fired by Yorkshire at the height of the racism scandal that engulfed the club, may make a second appearance next month.
Pyrah, who was people's batting coach before he was dismissed, was last year found guilty of using "racist and unfair language" when referring to leak Azeem Rafiq's girl by the Cricket Discipline Commission. He was handed a two-week restrictions from coaching and was fined £2,5000.
After signing a notice to the Yorkshire board accusing Rafiq of "waging a one-man mission to bring down the league" when he made claims of an structurally racist culture in the late 2021, he was one of the 16 staff members who were fired. After Yorkshire acknowledged that his sack had been "procedurally cruel," the team and Pyrah reached a arrangement the next year.
In a membership statement released on Friday that made no mention of his dismissal, Yorkshire confirmed the information. " We're happy Richard has agreed to become the head coach of our children's team and we are very pleased to welcome him back to Yorkshire," Colin Graves, the league's president, said.
" After a comprehensive and powerful process, Richard stood out amongst an extraordinary list of candidates. It was obvious Richard would be the ideal candidate to help us enter the new chapter of the club and advance our women's specialist team to the best possible level throughout the entire process.
" Richard is a proven designer, has an excellent standing, and a winning culture as a player and as a coach. We believe that Richard will be the best match for the next stage of our new and exciting trip. "
Yorkshire will perform in Tier 2 of the ECB's revamped private construction next year, alongside Derbyshire, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Kent, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Middlesex, Sussex and Worcestershire. They will then become a Tier 1 state from 2026 forward.
" It's an amazing dignity for me to be given the opportunity to direct Yorkshire's children's side and it's the greatest time of my job," Pyrah said. " This is an exciting moment to get involved in women's cricket, following ECB's revamp of the children's professional sport. "
