Sri Lanka's candidates have appointed Charith Asalanka as the innovative ODI captain, replacing Kusal Mendis. Before the line ' opener against India, where Wanindu Hasaranga had left after Sri Lanka's early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, Asalanka was appointed T20I captain.

The exact set of candidates had appointed Mendis as the ODI captain in December 2023, though he had likewise led Sri Lanka in some games in next year's World Cup in an acting ability. Though Mendis has been in great contact with the wicket, and Sri Lanka won six of the eight completed Wickets under his command, the candidates opted to go in a distinct way. Sri Lanka had lost to Bangladesh with a score of 2-1 in its previous home games against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe under Mendis ' leadership.

Asalanka's ascent to the T20I captain was expected following Hasaranga's departure, but a shift in the ODI management was fairly sudden, mainly because Mendis has not been in the position longer. However, Asalanka has been one of Sri Lanka's more constant ODI pitchers, averaging 43.59 with a strike price of 90 across 52 pitches.

In addition to the three Wickets against India on August 2, 4, and 7, Nishan Madushka, a 24-year check batsman, has been called back in Sri Lanka's club, along with Akila Dananjaya and Chamika Karunaratne.

Dilshan Madushanka and Asitha Fernando, who were only chosen for the T20I team after Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara were ruled out, may continue playing in the ODI line. Left-arm spinning allrounder Dunith Wellalage has even found a position.

The rest of this club performs generally as expected. Illness continues to keep Chameera out, while a shattered fingers makes Thushara's cooperation impossible. Matheesha Pathirana is the only other professional batsman besides Madushanka and Asitha. This is natural given Khettarama stadium in Colombo, where the three games will become played, tends to be spin-friendly. There is no place for Lahiru Kumara or Pramod Madushan, who had played in Sri Lanka's most-recent ODI set, against Bangladesh.

On the spin-bowling before, Sri Lanka have plenty of possibilities, between Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dananjaya and Wellalage. Kamindu Mendis and Asalanka can also provide some part-time roll.

The overall get appears to be fairly predictable. Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, and Mendis are likely to type the major three. Kusal Perera has not been included, despite some good T20 shows lately. Sadeera Samarawickrama, Janith Liyanage, and Kamindu are in the mixture to be in the thick purchase. At No. 1, Captain Asalanka is likely to bird. 5.
