SL vs IND 2024 Sri Lanka vs India Match Preview: During the late concluded LPL, roll held sway over speed in Pallekele- did that pattern continue in this T20I series?
Great picture: New origins
When India and Sri Lanka square off in Pallekele on Saturday, they will officially enter a new T20I time. Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the new captain for India, while Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have all retired from the sport. Sri Lanka have moved on from Angelo Mathews, while Charith Asalanka has replaced Wanindu Hasaranga at the head. Additionally, both groups have hired novel head coaches. India have got Gautam Gambhir and Sri Lanka Sanath Jayasuriya, the latter in an interim power, though.
While it is a new beginning for both groups, their going items could not have been more diverse. India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, a match in which Sri Lanka were eliminated in the first round, to end their long-awaited ICC prize dryness.
After that, India sent a second-string part to Zimbabwe where they won the five-match T20I set 4-1. While Asalanka led the Jaffna Kings to the subject, the Sri Lankan people were busy playing in the Lanka Premier League.
Both Asalanka and Suryakumar have recently led their regional factors. Asalanka in two T20Is against Bangladesh earlier this year and Suryakumar in seven T20Is in later 2023 against Australia and South Africa.
India are still not at full power for this line, though. Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best bowling in the world right now, has been rested. Sri Lanka, however, have been dealt a few blows even before the start of the series. First, they lost Dushmantha Chameera ( bronchitis ), then Nuwan Thushara ( broken finger ), and now Binura Fernando, who has been hospitalised with a chest infection. Their camp is being forced to call up All-Star Ramesh Mendis as a reserve because of the virus that is spreading all over them.

In the spotlight: Matheesha Pathirana and Shubman Gill
Playing for Colombo Workers, Matheesha Pathirana was the combined second-highest wicket-taker in the LPL with 15 crowns in nine games. His dying ball was what made him stand out even more. His 7.02 market, which was simply the best among those who bowled at least five innings at death, was at that point. In the first half of the pitches, Pathirana not bowled more than one over, a pattern that Sri Lanka is likely to follow. And having played in the IPL since 2022, Pathirana has plenty of knowledge of ball to India bowlers.
Shubman Gill has admitted that his effectiveness in T20Is leading up to the T20 World Cup was never up to expectations. From August 2023 until the World Cup, he scored most touchdowns in T20Is. He may become next after five more innings.
