The Boston Celtics ' ownership group, Boston Basketball Partners L. L. C., announced today that it would buy all of the team's stock. After much reflection and internal dialogue, the possession group's dominating family has chosen to sell the team out of concern for estate and family planning reasons.
The equity group's organizing committee anticipates selling a majority stake in 2024 or early 2025, with the remaining balance shutting in 2028, and that Wyc Grousbeck will serve as the team's governor until the second shutting in 2028.
The company, which Forbes valued at$ 4.7 billion in 2023, was purchased by an investment group led by Grousbeck in 2002 for$ 360 million. The Celtics have won two tournaments and reached the NBA Finals four days under their existing rights.
Next month, the Celtics won their 18th NBA title in franchise history, beating the Dallas Mavericks in five games. The team defeated the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Indiana Pacers to approach the NBA Finals after going 64- to 18 in the standard time to earn the title.
