Dalton Knecht is presently looking like a steal for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are actually outnumbered, and Dalton Knecht was the NBA Draft's biggest steal.
In his fourth career start, the guard dropped 37 points on 12-of-16 shooting ( 9-of-12 from deep ) with five rebounds and zero turnovers Tuesday in a 124-118 win over the Utah Jazz. You would be forgiven if the Lakers ' summer policy led you to feel Bronny James was the Lakers ' most important quarterback, but Knecht was and most certainly also is the bigger tower block for the team's future.
He really should n't have ever made it to Los Angeles in the first place, but that's how the draft ended up working out. After a breakout season at Tennessee, where he showed next-level scoring potential, especially with his 39.7 % 3-point shooting, Knecht's years, which might have turned groups off, was widely anticipated. Teenagers may become famous, but it's harder for a man after his first legal beverage is two years old.
The Lakers simply wanted a player who had improve them this year, not one of those who had possible.
After a year in which they were ranked 24th in the NBA in 3-pointers made, Knecht was a perfect match for a team that generally needed more shooting around LeBron James. And because the salary-cap space-strapped Warriors were unable to put any impact people in free agency or via investments, Knecht was their biggest contrast of the season, player-wise.
The fact that the Lakers selected a shooter to make an immediate effect only scored 37 points is a good sign for them. And it's no accident, apparently, that the Warriors are down to a 10-4 start with six straight win.
